Special guests at the July 11 meeting were Clarie Herbst and Chleo LeGrand, Girls State attendees. Both girls shared their activities of the week and expressed their appreciation for the privilege of attending the informatinal and educational week, where lasting friendships were made. Edna Smith has served as chairwoman for the Girls State program and asked someone to serve with her. Jane Grojean volunteered to co-chair this program with Smith.

There were 24 members and two guests were in attendance. Hostesses were Tina Bill, Alice Cordia and Linda Kern.

The 50/50 was won by Bill and the attendance prize by Kern.

President Barbara Yallaly read the history of the Pledge of Allegiance, written in 1892.

Before the business meeting the charter was draped in memory of Alberta Heimbaugh, a longtime and active member of the auxiliary.

Kern, education chairwoman, asked the members to bring school supplies and new clothing (socks, underwear, sock caps) for Jefferson Elementary School. The auxiliary is continuing this project as well as support for the Red Star food pantry.

Kern, membership chairman, also reported the group has reached their goal of 100 percent membership.

Officers for 2013 were voted on by acclamation to retain the same officers as in 2012. Shirley Young made the motion and it was accepted by the membership.

The American Legion will have a benefit chicken dinner beginning at 11 a.m. July 29 at the post home. Tickets are to be purchased in advance and are $7 per person.

The next meeting will be at noon Aug. 8. Lunch will be served before the 1 p.m. meeting.

Klaproth received notification from the state that the Cape Girardeau County public policy report she prepared received second place in the state and the award will be presented at the MAFCE annual conference Oct. 4 in Hannibal, Mo. Members were reminded of the registration for the conference.

The club will present a back-to-school party for the students at Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center with the date to be announced at the Aug. 9 meeting.

Several topics were discussed for the title for the club's SEMO District Fair booth, which the club plans to assemble.

Members brought items for the Safe House for Women to be delivered at 11 a.m. July 30.

Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Pizza Inn in Fruitland.

The hostess gift was won by Klaproth.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at the home of Thompson with Seabaugh presenting the program "Paper or Plastic."

Lamplighters FCE Club

Lamplighters FCE members assembled at the First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge parking lot to car pool to their June "Happy Birthday, Lamplighters" day out. The first stop was the Cape River Heritage Museum in Cape Girardeau where they toured the museum and enjoyed the Civil War exhibit.

Then 10 members and three guests gathered at the Grecian Steak House for lunch, a short business meeting, and secret pal gift exchange. Members recalled their most memorable birthday as the roll call.

It was reported that club members plus a member's granddaughter, Brynn Myers, read three days to the pre-K through fourth-grade students at the Oak Ridge summer school. A thank-you card and gift from the school was shared with the club.

A rotation for taking meals to a member who was experiencing health issue was scheduled.

Details from the June 5 autism weighted item work day were shared: 12 lap pads and 18 blankets were created and then delivered the following day to TouchPoint Autism Services in Cape Girardeau. It was noted that washed, stripped fabric is desperately needed before the Oct. 30 work day.

The July meeting date and place will be changed so that members can gather during the day to work on the "beads" from the surprise box that was received at the spring district meeting in Farrar, Mo. Members will be contacted as to the exact time and place.
