American Legion Auxiliary 63

Officers were installed at the July 10 meeting of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63.

They are: Iola Amelunke, president; Frieda Howard, vice president; Barbara Yallaly, secretary; Myrna Powers, treasurer; Betty G. Cato, historian; Caryn Michel, chaplain; and Muriel Day, sergeant at arms.

Gardis Kump was welcomed as a new member.

Catlin Bahn and Lisa Roe told of their experiences at Missouri Girls State.

Post members Melvin Amelunke and John Dragoni gave an update on the building of a new post home.

A donation was made for the Don Louis Lorimier Red House project.

For the Aug. 14 meeting it was decided to car pool to St. Mary's Antique Mall and to Perryville Legion Hall for lunch.

Town & Country Club

The annual family picnic of Town and Country FCE Club was held July 11 at Cape County Park South. The club provided the meat and members brought covered dishes.

Andrew and Blake Telle gave 4-H demonstrations on campfire bundles and BLT Macaroni Salad, respectively. They are grandsons of Lois Seabaugh.

It was decided to donate $25 to Lamplighters FCE Club for Relay for Life. Members brought items for Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry to be delivered by Sue Jones.

Jones, Mary Klaproth and Carolyn Thompson finalized plans to attend the National FCE meeting in St. Louis July 19-21.

It was decided to have dinner at Dexter Bar-B-Que July 25.

Linda Thompson is hostess for the Aug. 8 meeting.

Kage FCE Club

Shirley Palen was hostess for and gave the devotional at the July 11 meeting of Kage FCE Club. Roll call was each telling something about her family.

Inez Statler reported on the Cape County FCE-sponsored blood drive held June 26. Dortha Strack urged members to write letters to Gov. Bob Holden, opposing House Bill 1111.

"Families Then and Now" was the title of the program presented by Edna Hey. Judie Herbst gave mini lessons from the Hearth Fire Series on "Buying Safe Foods" and "Someone's in the Parlor Minding Their Manners."

Shirley Ruehling will be hostess for the Aug. 8 meeting.

Exchange Club

The July 2 meeting of Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau was held at Port Cape.

Larry Simon conducted the president's organization meeting. Committees were also named for the new year.

It was reported the club is sponsoring Ali Martin to Girls State.

Lamplighters Club

Gayla Volz was hostess for the June 20 meeting of Lamplighters Extension Club. A birthday celebration was held for all members and secret pal gifts were exchanged.

The theme of the event was "The '50s". Roll call was naming a favorite tune from the era.

Judy Meyer reported that swimming lessons were purchased as a birthday present for the four children of the family adopted by the club.

Discussion was held on Relay for Life to be held Aug. 2 and 3 at Jackson Park. The club's theme is "101 Dalmatians".

The next meeting is July 18.

Capaha Scottish Rite

The July meeting of Capaha Scottish Rite Women was held at the Country Kettle in Biehle. Velma Wallace was hostess and Freeda Smothers voiced the table prayer.

Louella Armstrong conducted the business session. The revised amendments to the club's constitution were reviewed and discussed. A contribution was made to the CCC Foundation in memory of Elnora Brown.

Lillian Birkman will be hostess for the August meeting.

New Salem UMW

The July 10 meeting of New Salem United Methodist Women was held at the home of Susan Sterner. Roberta Seabaugh opened the meeting with a reading and also read a letter about mission studies.

Roll call was each one wearing red, white and blue, and singing a patriotic song.

Sterner led the program on "Invisible Families in the U.S.," with members assisting.

Following the meeting, the group toured the Sterner home and the hostess showed and told about different things she has collected.
