Oak Ridge FCE

The Oak Ridge Homemakers FCE Club met June 17 at the home of Melva Floyd. Jean Rehak, president, presided over the meeting. Marilyn Retherford mentioned she had been reimbursed for the purchase of the Day of the Family books for newborns.

Old business included the discussion of the June 5 Cape Girardeau County Council meeting. Lee Anderson, Nelda Crader, Retherford and Rehak attended the meeting.

Six clubs in the county have decided on a community project, and the other five clubs agreed to join the Oak Ridge group in purchasing clothing to be given to children in conjunction with the Elks Club Christmas baskets to be given away in December.

The next council meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Cape County Extension office in Jackson.

Rehak reported she and Fran Jenkins are now working on the SEMO District Fair booth.

The state FCE conference, which will be Oct. 2 and 3 in Cape Girardeau, was discussed and will be discussed at the July, August and September meetings also. Local members are expected to attend the conference.

Carole Jo Byrd, Betty Dellinger, Crader and Anderson will attend the birthday party at Jackson Manor on Tuesday. Jenkins, Dellinger and Rehak will help with the bingo games at the Missouri Veterans Home.

The club will assist a local woman with three children by purchasing food.

Ruby Hitt and Retherford gave the program on Missouri veterans benefits.

The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. July 15 at Delmonico's restaurant in Jackson.

Town & Country FCE

The Town & Country FCE Club met at Cedar Street for the club's annual anniversary party. Shirley Heise, Doris Wilkerson and Judy Niswonger served as co-hostesses. Members wore "knockout" outfits, and Niswonger was master of ceremonies for the fashion show.

Barbara Stone was welcomed as a guest.

Mary Klaproth and Sue Jones returned from three weeks in Australia and New Zealand. They presented members a bookmark and Koala chocolate from Australia and golden kiwis and pens from New Zealand.

Linda Thompson and Darlene McCain reported on the quarterly council meeting.

Klaproth purchased two fans that were given to the Salvation Army. They were delivered June 16.

Bingo prizes were given to Ratcliff Nursing Center on June 26.

Projects for July will be a donation to Jackson Food Pantry and the Safe House for Women in Cape Girardeau.

The family picnic will be July 20 at Cape County Park.

The next club out will be July 26 at Casa Mexicana.

St. Mary CCW

The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met on June 19 in the Huels room with Diana Schaefer, president, presiding over the meeting.

Kelly Ressel from American Red Cross spoke about the blood drive to be conducted July 20. Donors will receive St. Louis Cardinals' T-shirts.

The Church Women United CROP sale and luncheon will be July 18 at Centenary United Methodist Family Life Center.

Tentative programs and possible projects for the year were discussed.

The next meeting will be July 17. Hazel Blank will present the program on organization. She also gave this program at the spring assembly.

Kage FCE

The Kage FCE Homemakers Club met at the Cape Girardeau County Extension office in Jackson. Linda Farrow served as hostess and served soup, salad and dessert prior to the meeting. Barbara Seyer and Marian Kramer were guests.

Dortha Strack, president, presided over the meeting. Dortha's tip of the day was "Always keep emergency phone numbers near the phone."

"Friends of the Troops" certificates were presented by Shirley Palen to members who sent 50 or more cards in 2007. Kage was the No. 2 group in Missouri and the No. 1 FCE club nationally.

The volunteer luncheon held at The Lutheran Home was attended by Opal Collins, Inez Statler, Verna Bogel, Jobyna Daume, Barbara Marshall and Strack.

A donation was made to the 4-H Clover Kids Camp for the month of June.

Martha Slaten, district direction, presented Judie Herbst with a scholarship to attend the state conference in October at the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau. The scholarship was available to any member who has never attended the conference. The theme for the conference will be "FCE Celebrate in 2008."

The County Council will join the Jackson Elks Lodge for this year's project. Clubs will collect underwear, socks, hats, gloves, etc., for the Elks Christmas baskets.

Palen presented the program, "Credit Card and Identity Theft, and the Importance of Checking Your Credit Score Regularly."

Before the meeting, four members from Young Americans 4-H Club gave demonstrations: Anthony Strack on banana orange smoothies; Belinda Strack on making fruit kabobs; Julia Weber on crocket basics; and Leslie Birk on preparing a horse to show.

The next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. July 10 at Cape County Park South for breakfast in the park. Herbst will host the breakfast.
