The Town and Country FCE Club met at Cedar Street on June 10 with eight members present. A devotional titled "Solitude" was read by Lois Seabaugh. The club project for this month was exchanging of secret pal gifts for members' birthdays.

A $25 donation was given to Sabrina White, a cancer victim. Shirley Heise reported she received a phone call and e-mail from her son, Kenny, who is stationed in Iraq, thanking the club for his care package.

Mary Klaproth received second place for the international report she prepared for Cape County FCE. The award will be presented at the annual state conference in Columbia, Mo., in August. Heise has received the Southeast District scholarship to attend this conference.

Thank-you notes were received from Judy Johnson, Cottonwood Treatment Center and Southeast Missouri Hospice. Cottonwood Treatment Center is the club's project for July.

Club out will be at the Branding Iron in Jackson at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

The July 8 meeting will be the club's annual family picnic at Cape County Park at 6:30 p.m.

Eastside Homemakers

The Eastside Homemakers met at Woodard's restaurant for breakfast on June 16. After breakfast, a meeting was held. A devotional, "Three Kinds of Giving," was given by Betty Butler.

The July 21 meeting will be a covered-dish luncheon at 11 a.m. at the home of Janet Piepenbrok.

Oak Ridge FCE

Wendy Metzisuer and Marilyn Sedgwick, both of Sikeston and former missionaries to Romania, were special guests for the Oak Ridge FCE meeting held at the Jackson Elks clubroom. They spoke on their living, working and entertaining while staying in Romania. Their talks and show of items they had kept for souvenirs were all presented before a Romanian lunch. Nelda Crader and Kim Begley prepared the meal and were hostesses for the meeting.

During a business meeting following the meal, plans were made to conduct sewing of green bears on July 20 to prepare for presentation to the Green Bear Project, a local child abuse project. A $50 donation was voted to be given as money for the group for transportation and general needs.

Jackson Manor workers for July will be Billie Criddle, Betty Dellinger and Carole Jo Byrd. An FCE blood drive will be held July 1 at the American Red Cross Center in Cape Girardeau. Crader will be working at the facility that day, Marilyn Retherford will be on the calling committee and Mary Dee Ford will furnish cookies for refreshments.

Byrd reported that her great-grandchildren received books from the club for National Day of the Family.

Retherford reported she had mailed sewing supplies in the name of the club for the women in Tonga, South Pacific.

Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club

The June meeting of the Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club was held at Delmonico's restaurant in Jackson with Luella Armstrong presiding.

Installation of officers was conducted by Mary Mouser. The officers are: Armstrong, president; Cynthia Alfaro, vice president; Debbie Hay, secretary; and Doris Hurst, treasurer.

Hostesses for the evening were Omega Hawkins and Juanita Holder.

The July 12 meeting place will be announced at a later date.

Exchange Club

The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau held election of officers and directors on June 15. Officers are: Monte Kyle, president; Joe Perez, president-elect; Merrill Simmons, secretary; and Cletus Todt, treasurer.

Directors voted to two-year terms are Vernon Auer, John Eggimann and Clarence Lohmann. Directors voted for one-year terms are Cliff Irwin, Ferd Sturm, Larry Simon and past president Perez.

Virgil Elfrink received a plaque for 35 years as club secretary. A plaque was also presented to the Exchangite of the Year, Perez.

Zonta Club

The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau Area met June 1 at the University Center on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

A program was presented by Cape Girardeau city manager Doug Leslie, Capt. Carl Kinnison of the Cape Girardeau Police Department and Cape Girardeau fire chief Rick Ennis regarding the fire sales tax vote.

Heather Brooks was initiated as a new member.

The following were announced as officers of the Zonta Foundation: Dr. Janet Ruopp, president; Kimberly Price, secretary; Marshal Haskell, treasurer; Cheryl Hill, vice president; Reagan Holliday, Jeannie Van De Ven and Polly Holten, board members.

Relay for Life participation and the Literacy Project were discussed.

International by-law changes were reviewed and discussed prior to attendance by the club's delegates, Marcia Southard-Ritter and Ellen Dillon.
