Cape Area CWU

The Cape Girardeau Area Church Women United met for Bible study and board meeting on June 4 at Chateau Girardeau with 12 members present.

Joyce King, co-leader, opened the meeting. The minutes were read and approved, and copies of the treasurer's report were handed out. A thank-you card from Haley Lewis, the CWU scholarship winner, was read. Everyone was reminded to sign-up for the Ecumenical Registry if they have not done so. May Friendship Day was discussed and it was decided to re-evaluate the event before next year.

The upcoming C.R.O.P. sale and luncheon was discussed and sign-up sheets for workers and donations were circulated. Workers are needed to help set-up on July 15 and to work July 16 during the event. A motion was made and passed to purchase outdoor advertising signs for the event.

Nominations for the Human Rights Award were discussed and will be presented and voted on at the August meeting.

A donation to the Ludhiana Christian Medical College and Hospital in northern India was voted on and passed. Also discussed were kits for expectant mothers in India.

A donation to the Salvation Army camping program in memory of Francis Patterson was voted on and passed. There was also discussion of making and donating a quilt to the Festival of Sharing in the future. Helen Lohmeier asked for ideas for the upcoming Awareness Luncheon to be held in September.

Fellowship of the Least Coin was collected, as well as labels and boxtops.

Cape County FCE

The Cape County FCE Council met June 3 at the Jackson Extension Center. The meeting was called to order by Inez Statler, president.

Judy Herbst from Kage Club had the devotion and "The Lord's Prayer" was recited.

Carolyn Thompson, secretary, read the minutes. JoAnn Hahs gave the treasurer's report for Roberta Seabaugh. There were 13 members and a guest present.

Dortha Strack, Kage Club, reported on the Spring District meeting held on May 6 at Doniphan, Mo. 14 members from Cape County FCE Clubs went. She also gave report on the fair booths for the SEMO District Fair, Sept. 10-19. They have the four booths full.

Wayne County will host the Fall District meeting.

JoAnn Hahs gave a report on the large blankets, lap size and shoulder snakes that the Cape County FCE clubs are making for the Cape Girardeau Autism Center. There have had two working days and 13 large blankets, 11 lap, and four shoulder snakes have been made.

Mary Klaproth reported on the tours that are coming up The Muny in St. Louis to see "Showboat" on Aug. 10; "State Fair" at Stages in St. Louis on Sept. 18; and a boat ride from the Gateway Arch to Kimmswick on Oct. 6.

Klaproth also gave a report on the Child Advocacy Day held on April 7 at the Capitol Building in Jefferson City, Mo. Liz Fish and Klaproth were the FCE members from the Southeast District. They had 268 dolls and needed 209. Klaproth said that she took 10 dolls and gave them to the Safe House at Cape Girardeau. She also presented dolls to Jason Crowell, Scott Lipke and Billy Pat Wright.

JoAnn Hahs had no report on the FCE Scholarship.

State conference will be in St. Louis, Sept 23 and 24. Hahs is going to do the tri-fold for the meeting, which will be Literacy and Books.

Linda Thompson won the Heart of FCE for the National Meeting on July 16-18 at Grand Rapids, Mich.

Also for the state meeting the MAFCE Scholarship went to Darlene Wilkinson and Barbara Barks for first time attending this meeting.

American Legion Auxiliary 63

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 met June 9 for an auxiliary picnic at the Conservation Shelter in Arena Park. Three women veterans from the Missouri Veterans Home were our guests. Each one was recognized and presented with a gift. Patty Lansmon, one of the women veterans, won the 50/50 drawing.

Peggy Blaylock will be our delegate to the State Convention to be held July 8 through 11 in Jefferson City.

Members brought items to be sent to our troops in Afghanistan and items for the Red Star food pantry.

Edna Smith, Girls State chairman, will invite girls and their parents to a luncheon on July 14.

It was voted to sponsor a Girl Scout troop again this year. Karen Hann, Patsy Kimbrel's daughter, was featured in the June TBY - The Best Years. The article told of her committment to scouting.

Bingo was played following the meal and business meeting.

The annual Fourth of July picnic will be held at the two shelters north of the Arena Building. The Legion men will cook hamburgers and brats, for the event which will begin at noon.

Barbara Yallaly visited with Terry Wildman regarding donating quilts our auxiliary made, to his homeless shelter. A canned soup shower will be held at our August meeting.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary

Helen Heise was installed as the VFW Ladies Auxiliary president. She will serve a one-year term. Judy Biester was the previous president.

Tilsit 4-H

The June 3 meeting of the Tilsit 4-H Club was called to order by Ryan Aufdenberg, president at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center. Pledges were lead by Adam Kirchendoerfer and Emma Sievers. Songs were lead by Elleigh Seyer. Roll call was "Where are you going for summer break?" There were 21 members and 17 guests. There were many Project Reports.

Layton Hahn gave a demonstration on "raising a puppy." Sara Gholson gave a demonstration on "three different stitches in crotchet." Kirchendoerfer gave a talk on "preparing a disaster supply kit." Landon Hinkebein gave a demonstration on "how to get your goat ready for the fair."

Our next meeting will be on July 8.
