New McKendree UMW

The New McKendree United Methodist Women met June 5 in the church fellowship hall with 26 members present. Betty Henry, secretary, presided.

The minutes of the May meeting were read and approved.

Edith Eggers, program resources, reported that the book "90 Minutes in Heaven" was missing and asked for help in finding it.

Penny Green, social action, reported on delivering donations to Orchard Elementary School, Vision House and the Network Against Seuxal Violence. She read a thank-you note from the NASV staff.

Shirley Patterson, education and interpretation, reminded members of several upcoming events. The UMW District Day Apart will be held Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Piedmont, Mo. The CWU CROP sale will be held July 13 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. The School of Missions will be July 26 through 29 in Fayette, Mo. The Mini School of Missions will be Sept. 15 at Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville. CWU will have its Awareness Luncheon on Sept. 21. The annual UMW meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 29 in St. Louis. Anyone interested in attending any of these events should contact Mary Klaproth, president.

Naomi Hartle, membership, reported there were no new church members to contact in May. Wilma Summers, mission ribbons, announced having some new ribbons from which to choose.

Circle reports: one member from Dorcas, three from Esther, four from Hope, one from Joy.net, six from Mary/Martha, two from Naomi, seven from Wesleyan, and two members at large. The mission ribbon for attendance was awarded to Wesleyan Circle.

The rummage sale held Memorial Day weekend raised $1,787.35.

Chairwomen of each circle received information concerning the Festival of Sharing health and school kits. The kits are to be brought to the September meeting. A shipping fee of $2 is necessary for each kit. More information will come from the Outreach Committee through the church newsletter beginning in July.

Jan Burk moved that the mission ribbon awarded for attendance at the general meetings be based on percentage of members rather than total attending. The motion was seconded by Missy Fenderson and passed.

Cook moved that the UMW sponsor a member of the Mission Team. The motion was seconded by Eglena Davis and passed.

Evelyn Brase reported on the church library renovation. She was retired as coordinator, and Julie Walker will be doing the job now. The group expressed appreciation to Brase for her many years of dedication to the library.

Shirley Patterson of Wesleyan Circle gave a informative program on the Palestinian territories and Israel.

The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 4 at the Celebration Center, South campus. Esther Circle will presented the program and a salad luncheon will be held at 11:15 a.m.

Town & Country FCE

The Town & Country FCE celebrated its anniversary June 14 at Ryan's Family Steak House with nine members present. Mary Klaproth, president, presided over the meeting.

Klaproth thanked members for their support of the Parkview State School party and also stated that Sue Jones completed the application for the MFFCE grant for Parkview. She also thanked members who attended the Lutheran Home luncheon May 17.

Linda Thompson, secretary, read thank-you notes from the Jackson Ministerial Alliance for food pantry items, for memorial gifts for Norma Scrieber and Margaret Glastetter, from Parkview State School, and from Shirley Heise and Darlene McCain.

Klaproth reminded members to bring coupons for members of the U.S. military.

Thompson reported on the recent council meeting.

The club agreed to purchase fans for the Salvation Army and bingo items for the Missouri Veterans Home.

Members were reminded to keep their volunteer hours current.

McCain and Thompson reported that club out will be at 6:30 p.m. June 28 at Pizza Hut in Jackson.

Jones reported she received a certificate from "Friends of Our Troops" for Christmas cards.

The next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. July 12 at Cape County Park, pavilion 20. Members are asked to bring a covered dish, silverware, plates and drinks.

Arnsberg 4-H Club

The Arnsberg 4-H Club met June 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim with 21 members, 10 leaders and two guests present. Ethan Seyer presided over the meeting. Chelsea and Kelly Hahs led the songs, and Kyle Rohde led the pledges.

During the business meeting, the following topics were discussed: club banner, 60-year-old club T-shirts, summer activity and leader training.

The following members had project meetings: Dustin Oehl on computers, poultry and goats; Jake and Madison LeGrand on self-determined meeting; and Amanda Lappe on sewing.

Local achievement will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday. County achievement will be held June 29 and 30. Camp will be July 9 through 11.

American Legion Auxiliary 63

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 63 met June 13. Guests were the eight girls who will attend Missouri Girls' State next week and their parents. They are Megan Hodges, Kelsey Gaines, Elizabeth Buchheit, Andrea Horrell, Sara Blattel, Jennifer Miinch, Laura Lusk and Heather Deisher.

JoAnn Herod and Nancy Malvasio were welcomed as new members.

Patsy Kimbrel presided over a brief meeting.

The following officers were accepted: Kimbrel, president; Gerri Stone, vice president; Barbara Yallaly, secretary; Myrna Powers, treasurer; Marilyn Ritter, chaplain; Juanita Cook, sergeant-at-arms; and Jane Grojean, Cathryn Allison and Edna Smith, executive members.

The Fourth of July American Legion gathering will be held at Arena Park, shelters 7 and 8. There will be a meal at noon. Members are to bring a vegetable, dessert or salad. The auxiliary will furnish the fried chicken and the men will barbecue and cook curly fries. Paper products and drinks will be provided.

A motion was made by Edna Smith and seconded by Iola Amelunke to cancel the regular July meeting.

Yallaly and Amelunke will attend the convention to be held July 12 through 15 in Jefferson City, Mo.

Kage FCE

The Kage FCE Homemakers Club met at the home of Shirley Palen for its monthly meeting. Dortha Strack, president, conducted the meeting. Verna Downen was a guest and rejoined the club.

A thank-you note was received from students and faculty at Jefferson Elementary school for the "Reading is a grand thing" program. The program will resume in September.

Linda Farrow and Opal Strack presented Saint Francis Medical Center with books for the "Books for Newborns" project.

Edna Hey presented certificates to Inez Statler, Joan Meyer, Barbara Marshall, Dortha Strack and Farrow for sending 35 or more cards to the Military Mail project. Kage Club ranked No. 1 in Missouri and No. 2 nationally for their participation in this project.

A donation was made to the Young American 4-H Club for the annual Dortha's Clover Kids Camp. The theme for the camp this year was "Adventures in Space." Sunny Hill Garden Center donated a Cleveland Select Bradford Pear tree that was planted on the day of the camp. Eighteen children attended the one-day camp.

A workshop for the county project, "Dolls for Child Advocacy Day" will be held at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Members will make dolls for the project. In addition to these dolls, each FCE member in the county is responsible for donating one doll to the project. The dolls will be turned in at the district meeting Oct. 4.

A workshop will be held in July to assemble tote bags for the Sorority at Southeast Missouri State University for Ronald McDonald House.

Opal Collins reported that the trip in July to St. Louis to see "Hello Dolly" at The Muny is sold out.

Two members of Young Americans 4-H Club gave demonstrations. Gavin Seyer gave a demonstration on how to give a calf a shot and Rebecca Ray gave a demonstration on how to avoid being bitten by a dog.

The next meeting will be hosted by Barbara Schaffner on July 12.
