Tilsit 4-H
The Tilsit 4-H Club met June 1 at Gordonville Fire Station 2 near Tilsit. Matthew Golden, president, presided over the meeting with 12 members and 13 others present. Renee Peters and Tyler Gholson led the pledges and Ryan Aufdenberg and Clay Birk led the songs. The secretary's and treasurer's reports were given.
The 4-H County Achievement Day and County Fair will be June 23 and 24 at the University of Missouri Extension Office in Jackson. All are encouraged to attend and bring their projects. The Cape County 4-H Camp will be July 10 through 12 at Lake Wappapello.
The club picnic will be held Aug. 3.
The following reports were given: swine 1 and foods A by Jacob Koenig; crocheting by Morgan Bangert; photography 1 by Paige McNeely; and cake decorating by Peters.
The following demonstrations were given: How to make figure pipe clowns by Peters; how to make mystery muffins by Koenig; and how to make lasagna by Gholson.
The next meeting will be July 6 at the fire station.
The Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 met for their May meeting with Larry Koehler, commander, presiding.
Jack Piepenbrock, veterans service officer, gave the program on the Missouri Veterans Commission.
The minutes from the last meeting were approved. Richard Aguilar gave the financial report, and P.M. Kurre reported that membership is at 594 and introduced Delbert Phillips as a new transfer.
Jack Latimer reported on the following list of nominees: Richard Decker, commander; Kurre, first vice president; John Hopkins, second vice president; Aguilar, finance officer; Rosie Wells, adjutant; Bill Poe, service officer; James Nelson, historian; David Ludwig, Americanism; Travis King, chaplain; Bill Sullivan, sergeant at arms; and Gary Kamp and Latimer, trustees.
Poe reported that Homecomer tickets have been mailed. Mike Strack reported placing new flags at Legion Field, Oliver House and the Chamber of Commerce. He also said the city was getting ready to start on street signs for the cemeteries.
Wells reported the honor guard did three funerals. Leonard Adams reported on the dances.
Keith Seabaugh reminded members of upcoming District meeting in Jackson. He also presented Koehler with a certificate for attending the Legion Leadership Course.
Virgil Whitener gave the hall report, and Latimer gave the club room report.
The United Methodist Women of New Salem Church in Daisy met June 7 in the church fellowship hall for the annual birthday celebration meeting.
A short business meeting was conducted by Dorothy Hahs, president, before the party. Plans were made for the father/son/ friend banquet to be held Friday. The UMWs will purchase the refreshments for the upcoming Bible School at the end of June. The nursing home visitation schedule was discussed. A special offering was received for the UMWs elderly secret pal.
Verla Mangels and Colleen Lukefahr were appointed to a committee to check into buying T-shirts to be worn at church suppers. Aprons of corresponding colors will be purchased later.
The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on July 5 at the home of Dorothy Hahs. This will be the Christmas in July meeting, and all members are to bring a health kit for the Festival of Sharing.
The Kage FCE Club met June 8 at the Cape Girardeau Senor Center. Verna Vogel was hostess and Martha Slaten presided over the meeting.
Leslie Birk, member of Young Americans 4-H Club, presented a demonstration on trail riding.
Thirteen members and a former member attended Volunteer Appreciation Day at The Lutheran Home on May 15.
Members were reminded to keep a record of volunteer hours and mileage. Also a record of books and magazines read each month.
Shirley Rhaber will take 87 books and magazines donated by members to the Monticello House in Jackson.
Slaten reported on the June 1 FCE Council meeting and stated that $711 had been collected for quilt tickets. The quilt was made by Agnes Wachter of Cheerful Country Doers FCE Club.
Five clubs will have booths at the SEMO District Fair in September.
Dortha Strack, Jobyna Daume and Slaten plan to attend the NAFCE Conference in Nashville, Tenn., from July 21 through 23.
It was voted to give $25 to Dortha's Day Camp for Clover Kids which was held recently with 22 Clover Kids in attendance.
Neva Jackson presented the program, "it's harmless entertainment."
The next meeting will be on July 13 with Jane Clark as hostess.
The Town & Country FCE Club met June 8 at Cedar Street Restaurant for their regular meeting and to celebrate its 40-year anniversary. Carolyn Thompson and Linda Thompson were in charge of arrangements. Each member was presented with a red rose and a booklet depicting the history of the club's 40 years.
The club was organized in June 1965 with five charter members: Betty Palmer, Dorothy Farrow, Ruth Tinnin, Sheila Boyer and Linda Thompson. Thompson is the only active charter member in the club.
The program was presented by Carolyn Thompson, reviewing the history of the club. A 40-year designed balloon and an anniversary cake was decoration for the event. Lois Seabaugh, president, presided over the meeting.
Thank-you notes were read from Parkview State School for the recent ice cream/cookie party and from Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center for a monetary donation. A report was given on the success of the club's food stand at the Poplar Bluff air Show. These proceeds will to be used for community projects.
A report was given on the County Council meeting held June 1. It was suggested that the club could meet before upcoming regular scheduled County Council meetings.
The fall district meeting will be in Perry County, tentatively set for late October. Also, the state meeting will be held in Columbia, Mo., Oct. 19 and 20.
The National FCE meeting will be July 21 through 23 in Nashville, Tenn., with Lois Seabaugh, Mary Klaproth and Linda Thompson having registered to attend.
Two fans will be donated to the Fan Club at the Salvation Army. These will be delivered on June 22, and then the group will go to Red Lobster for "club out."
The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on July 13 at Cape County Park pavilion 20 for the annual family picnic. Sue Jones and Inez Knott will be chairpersons. The meat will be provided by the club and members are to bring covered dishes, table service and drinks.
