Cape Girardeau County FCE Council

The Cape Girardeau County FCE Council met June 2 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Darlene McCain, vice president, presided over the business meeting in the absence of Barbara Barks, president. JoAnn Hahs with Lamplighters FCE Club gave the devotion on patchwork quilts. Mary Klaproth, secretary, read the minutes, which were approved, and Jean Rehak, treasurer, gave her report, which is on file.

Hahs gave a report on the spring district meeting hosted by Ripley County in Doniphan, Missouri, on April 21. Eleven members from Cape Girardeau County attended. The fall district meeting will be hosted by Butler County in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, with the date to be announced later. Cheerful Country Doers and Kage will be asked to furnish centerpieces for the tables, which will later be given as door prizes.

A report was given on the six leader training sessions that were held April 4 at the Extension Center, with favorable comments on all except for one session.

Barks, Hahs and Klaproth attended Child Advocacy Dayon April 6 in Jefferson City, Missouri. Cape Girardeau County donated 51 dolls, which were given to legislators, and they in turn gave them to children. A larger number of FCE members were present for the event.

Verla Mangels and Klaproth gave a report on the trip planned to The Muny to see "Music Man" on Monday, July 11. Reservations are due by June 27 and there are openings for the trip.

The MAFCE Annual Conference will be held Sept. 28 through 30 at The Inn at Grand Glaize in Osage Beach, Missouri. The display board for the meeting was discussed and Judie Herbst and Shirley Palen will be asked if they are willing to do the display board.

There was discussion regarding the quilt made by Ruby Hitt. No decision was made on the quilt.

The National FCE Meeting will be held in Memphis, Tennessee, July 14 through 17.

JoByna Daume gave a report for Sarah Ross, corresponding secretary, who was not present. Ross has mailed several cards and sent several thank-you notes.

The nominating committee consisting of Agnes Wachter, Linda Sebaugh and Betty Dellinger are to have a slate of officers to present at the Sept. 1 Council Meeting. Officers are needed for president-elect, secretary and treasurer.

Members will have a work day making weighted blankets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 7 to be given to persons with autism.

The next quarterly council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 1 at the Extension Center in Jackson.
