The New McKendree United Methodist Women met May 4 in the fellowship hall. The meeting was opened by Mary Klaproth, president, leading the members in the reciting of the UMW Purpose.
The minutes of the April meeting were read by Gale King, secretary, and approved. The treasurer's report was given by Marilyn Fronabarger and approved.
King moved that the unit reimburse Klaproth for the money she paid the speaker of the Spring Fling Tea. Gladys Nitsch seconded. The motion passed.
Betty Henry moved that the $600 in the budget for the youth be given to them to be spent equally between camp expenses and missions. Julie Combs seconded and the motion passed.
Shirley Patterson, education and interpretation chairwoman, spoke to encourage members to attend the Missouri Cooperative School of Christian Mission, to be held at Central Methodist University, Fayette, Mo., July 29 through Aug. 1. She also announced that the Day Apart meeting will be in Piedmont, Mo., on June 12. Deadline for registration is June 5.
Elwanda Patterson, Fronabarger, Klaproth, Shirley Patterson, and Combs attended assembly in St. Louis on April 30. They each gave a report on some part of the event, and they thanked the unit for supporting them on the trip.
The Ester Circle won the attendance ribbon with seven members present. Millie Rose, a new member of the Ester Circle, attended the UMW meeting for the first time.
Klaproth announced that the June Mission Collection will go the Susana Learning Center.
The president thanked all who helped with UMW weekend, especially, Shirley Patterson, the speaker. The committee of Laura Jo Smith, Winnie Dumey, Edith Eggers, Geraldine Davis, Betty Hudson, Tandy Wendel and June Engel were recognized for their work in making the Spring Fling Tea such a success. Sherry Hammes and Eggers were thanked for furnishing the clay pots for the table decorations.
The Ester Circle will serve at the Jackson Manor birthday party in May. Members-at-large, and the Ruth Circle will serve at the party in June.
Combs asked everyone to save items for the yard sale to be held May 27 through 29.
The Rev. Jimmy Corbin gave a program on apportionments.
The Ester Circle served refreshments. The meeting closed with a reading from the Prayer Calendar.
