The Lamplighter FCE Club met on May 19 in the home of Dodie Eisenhauer in Daisy. President JoAnn Hahs called the meeting to order. She gave the devotion from the book, "Dear Lord, they want me to give the devotion."
Business meeting: Minutes from April's meeting were read and placed on record as was the treasurer's report.
Unfinished business: A donation of $20.85 was collected for Pennies for Friendship. JoAnn Hahs read a thank-you note received from the Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship thanking club members for working at the food stand and the donation of baked goodies. Information about collection of unwanted frozen meat for the Tiger Sanctuary has not been received. Books for newborns for National Day of the Family were brought to the meeting and labeled with the club's name.
New Business: Hahs read a letter from Brynn Myers seeking sponsorship or partial sponsorship for participation in Missouri Girls' State. A motion to pay half of the fees was made and carried. Verla Mangels will be attending the quarterly council meeting with Hahs on June 2.
Jackie Kurre gave a program with handouts on advanced directives. Margaret Friese gave a program on fall prevention and chair exercises.
Announcements: June 1 is the deadline for the district's first-timer scholarship to the national conference. July 15 is the deadline for the first-timer scholarships to the state conferences. The quarterly council meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the University of Missouri Extension Center. The Autism item sew day will be held at the Extension Center on June 7 beginning at 9 a.m. The National FCE Conference will be held July 14 through 17 in Memphis, Tennessee.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 16. Members are to meet at 10 a.m. at the parking lot of the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge to go the Mayfield Cultural Center in Marble Hill, Missouri. This will be the birthday outing for club members. Be sure to bring your secret pal birthday gift.
The Torchbearer Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met May 16 at the home of Marsha Parrish. Fifteen members were present. President Joyce Hays presided.
A thank-you note was received from Judie Herbst for being chosen the chapter "Woman of the Year" for the 2015-2016 chapter year. The award was presented at the all-chapter founders day dinner held April 28 at the New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. Host chapter for the event was Epsilon Epsilon
Carole Calvin reported on the Beta Sigma Phi city council meeting held on May 4 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Seven local chapters were represented at this meeting. The current officers retained their respective office.
The chapter surveys were collected and the report will be given at the end-of-the year meeting.
A decision was made to hold the annual end-of-the-year dinner at Ciao Ristorante in Cape Girardeau. At this dinner, secret pals will be revealed and new secret pals will be drawn for the new chapter year. The program of the year award will be voted on and awarded at this meeting.
Members signed up for various committees for the new year.
New president, Dixie Jones, will schedule an executive board meeting at the end-of-the-year dinner.
Following the meeting new officers were installed: Dixie Jones, president; Margaret Little, vice president; Charlotte Bess, corresponding secretary; Linda Belote, recording secretary; Carol Calvin, treasurer; and Dixie Jones and Joyce Hays, city council representatives with Judie Herbst as alternate.
Hays presented a program on "we put our hearts into it" and an article from the Guidepost, "Spreading the Word" concerning the American Bible Society.
Parrish gave a program, tulip time in Amsterdam. She spoke about the 100 acres of tulips and showed photos of the tulips taken on their recent trip to Amsterdam to visit daughter and family.
