St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met March 20 in the Huels Room.

Becky McLean opened the meeting with a Hail Mary and "The Pledge of Allegiance."

Lisa Simmons gave the program. She showed pictures of changes in the church from early days and the progress of work being done now. The church will be ready for Easter.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Officers attending were McLean, president; Mary Buxton, vice president; Pat Eftink, treasurer; Imelda Nenninger, secretary; and Kate Schaefer, past president.

Eftink distributed copies of the treasurer's report.

A thank-you note was read from Carmen Drury for the Mass for Robert Drury. Also a note from the family of Ernest Beussink for the meal and time to visit with family was read. A pamphlet from Birthright was available.

It was moved by Nancy King and seconded by Buxton that we join Church Women United. Hazel Blank will be our parish representative. There is a 2014 calendar for CWU at each place.

Commission reports

King: we served the wedding anniversary dinner Feb. 14.

Dolores Gibbar reported a bereavement dinner had been served.

Buxton read a thank-you letter from Andrew Williams.

Judy Stricker and Eftink reported on the Day of Retreat held March 8 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Donna Simonton said that the Rev. Tom Kiefer appreciated members serving weekend coffee, milk, juice, cookies and donuts. Many parishioners are visiting after each Mass.

Schaefer reported an Italian meal will be served to DCCW board members April 24. McLean and Stricker will work the early shift. Marsha Williams will see to decorations.

Members asked to bring items for the purse auction to the April meeting and also for the chocolate basket grab bag. The Spring Assembly will be held April 25and 26 at Drury Lodge. Registration forms, schedules and tickets for the Grab Bag Auction are at each place.

It was moved by Stricker and seconded by Schaefer that the registration fee for officers and commission chairs will be paid by the parish council. The motion carried.

Help is needed to serve the reception following the Chrism Mass April 14.

The next meeting will be held April 10, the second Thursday, because the third Thursday is Holy Thursday.

The group is making two chocolate baskets, one for the Spring Assembly grab bag auction and one for the raffle.
