The Town and Country FCE Club met Feb. 10 at the home of Mary Klaproth. Shirley Heise, president, opened the meeting.
Klaproth read the devotional "A Valentine Wish" and a poem "Ode to a volunteer."
During the business meeting, plans were made to deliver Valentine treats to Cottonwood Treatment Center in Cape Girardeau on Valentine's Day.
Members will obtain signatures for "Tune Out Violence" on March 19 at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Cape Girardeau.
Sue Jones reported that she has purchased two spiral Christmas trees to be added to the annual Christmas display at Cape County Park for the 2005 season.
Heise announced that a Cape County Extension Council meeting will be held today at the Cape Girardeau County Extension Office in Jackson.
Jones gave the program on "Shadow Embroidery."
The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on March 10 at the home of Norma Schrieber.
The Arnsberg 4-H club met Jan. 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church hall in Friedheim with 23 members, nine leaders and five guests. Emily Ruch, president, presided over the meeting. This was the club's annual box supper with everyone bringing a decorated box for the meal. Tony Barks and Chester Seyer auctioned the boxes off. One hundred dollars will be donated to the new 4-H building at Arena Park for the SEMO District Fair.
Amanda Lape led the pledges and Cody Hahs and Lucas Rohde led the group in songs. Kyle Rohde, Ashley Barks, Mike Light and Taylor Seyer were celebrating birthdays.
Dustin Oehl reported on poultry and goat project group meetings and Ruch reported on her vet science meeting.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church hall.
The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met Feb. 17 in the Monsignor Huels room in the parish office building. Jean Seres, the "hat lady," presented a program, donning many hats while telling jokes.
Diane Schaefer, vice president, reported sending 18 birthday cards and three get-well cards. Margie Huber, organization chair, announced that a planning meeting was held by the January, May, July and September circle leaders and helpers for the spring garage/craft sale and bake sale to be held April 9. Tables can be rented for $10 and white elephant items may be donated. A continental breakfast and lunch will be available. The bake sale will continue on Sunday.
Hazel Blank, CWU representative, announced that the World Day of Prayer will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau.
The Region VII Day of Reflection will be held at Guardian Angel Church in Oran, Mo., on Saturday. Mass is at 8 p.m. Members should bring a sack lunch, Bible and pens.
Shoes, socks and shoelaces can be brought to the parish office for "Shoes for Orphan Souls."
The annual spring assembly will be held in Springfield, Mo., on April 29 and 30.
The next meeting will be held on March 17 in the grade school cafeteria.
The Oak Ridge FCE Homemakers Club met Feb. 15 at the home of Billie Criddle. There were 11 members and a guest present. The meeting was called to order by Betty Dellinger, president. Barbara Popp led the prayer, Ruby Hitt gave the devotional and Mary Dee Ford led in song.
Kim Begley read a thank-you note from Leasa Stone, the coordinator for the Green Bear Organization. She also asked for help with a fund-raising concert on April 10.
Marilyn Retherford reported on her visit to the club's adopted family. Carole Jo Byrd announced that the club will collect signatures for "Tune Out Violence" at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Jackson from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 19.
Jean Rehak, Lee Anderson and Criddle were appointed to look at recipes for the international dinner.
All-Clubs Day will be held March 28 beginning at 9:30 a.m. and leader training will be held at 6:30 p.m. on April 11. Both meetings will be held at the University of Missouri Extension office in Jackson.
A monetary gift was sent to Betty Schalk, the state president of FCE, who recently lost her home in a fire.
Nelda Crader gave a program on "No Child Left Behind" and Popp gave a program on "billfold medical history."
The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau met Feb. 1 at the University Center on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. A presentation was given by Lizbe Knote about a well-known Zontian, Amelia Earhart. Highlights of Earhart's life were outlined.
Part of the final planning process was completed for the Zonta flea market to be held on March 19 from 7 to 11 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Upcoming service projects were announced as well as early discussions regarding the club holding the District 7 meeting Sept. 30 through Oct. 2.
The Oak Ridge After-School 4-H Club met Feb. 16 in the elementary school library with 18 members, one leader and one guest present. Dakota Oehl presided over the meeting.
Madison LeGrand led the songs and Brooke Shirrell and Taylor Bowes led the pledges.
Tyler Maintz and Morgan Smith reported on the space project. The club sold 693 candy-grams with the proceeds donated to the tsunami victims.
The club voted to adopt a manatee named Dana for the conservation project.
The club will start working on Easter projects and crafts for March and April. They will also start planting seeds for the outdoor classroom.
The Cape County 4-H Gardening Club met Feb. 20 at Sunny Hill Gardening Center. There were 11 members present.
Dortha Strack led the meeting. She taught many things about gardening. She also taught the group how to fertilize trees.
The Nancy Hunter Chapter of NSDAR met Feb. 23 in the Hirsch Room at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Mary Lou Lett and Lois Spalding were co-hostesses.
Sharon Rowland, regent, led the group in the rituals before turning the program over to Patsy Robert to give out the Good Citizens Awards. Students chosen to receive this year's awards are Emily Bird from Notre Dame Regional High School, Kristina Stovall from Delta High School, Rachel Story from Cape Girardeau Central High School and Rusty Statler from Oak Ridge High School.
Mick Stiver read a letter from Scot House stating they would like the club's help with things needed to help restore Fort D. Edna Ruth Fischer made a motion to purchase a flag pole. It was seconded by Sue Ludlow.
The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met Feb. 1 and 15 at Port Cape Girardeau.
The Feb. 1 meeting program was the student of the month chaired by Ferd Sturm. Students of the month for December, January and February were Rita Jo Dirnberger from Notre Dame Regional High School, Amanda Berry from Saxony Lutheran High School and Lindsay Smith from Central High School. Each student received a plaque and a $100 savings bond.
Dan Muser of the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department was the guest speaker at the Feb. 15 meeting. He reported on things that needed to be done on April 23 clean-up day.
The next meeting will be held March 15.
