Xi Nu Phi
The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met March 16 at the home of Linda Biri. It was announced that the Founder's Day Banquet will be held April 27 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. Also, the date for the chapter to attend the Nashville Flea Market has been changed to May 22.
Plans were tentatively made to attend the wine tasting event on April 16 sponsored by the Community Counseling Center.
The scrapbook committee will begin assembling this year's scrapbook. The chapter will be collecting items for the Humane Society. A list of needed items will be brought to the next meeting.
A report was presented on the 2005 convention to be held in Cape Girardeau and pre-registration forms were distributed.
An election was held. Officers are, Debbie Balsano, president; Cathy Pancoast, vice president; Tammy Monia, recording secretary; Biri, corresponding secretary; Sandy Ross, treasurer; Beverly Compas, extension; Sheryl Smith, city council representative; and Renee Hesselrode, secret pal.
The next meeting will be at the home of Smith on April 6.
Young Americans 4-H
Clint Heuer, president, called the March 18 meeting of the Young Americans 4-H Club. There were 21 members, 17 leaders and four guests present. Those with March birthdays were recognized. Micayla Gray led the group in a song.
Announcements were given regarding steer weigh-in, countywide livestock judging, countywide meat ID judging and 4-H Day with the St. Louis Cardinals.
It was decided to have a food stand at a farm auction on April 3, coordinated by the Illers family. Reports were given on horsemanship, crafts, computers and clowning project meetings.
Leslie Birk, B.J. Heuer, Justin Tuschhoff, Peter Weaver, Clint Heuer, and Gray are members of the Cape County Horse Judging Team and competed in Columbia, Mo., on Feb. 28. The Cape County team placed 10th out of 45 teams in the state. Individually, Gray placed fourth out of 245.
Demonstrations and illustrated talks were given: Hunter Rubel on top five cattle breeds in the area; Victoria Schabbing, on how to make pizza pockets; Truman Kinsey, on how to make cinnamon toast; and Tyler Kirchdoerfer, on types of daily halters.
Refreshments were served by the Telle and Ostendorf families.
Oak Ridge FCE
The Oak Ridge FCE Club recently voted to contribute toward the Jessica King, People to People Ambassador's Trip. King, a Jackson High School student, will be going to Australia and New Zealand for a bowling-themed trip in July. She is the granddaughter of FCE member Betty Dellinger. The hostess for the meeting, Jean Rehak, incorporated St. Patrick's Day decorations and refreshments for the meeting held at the Jackson Elks Lodge activity room.
Sexual Violence Against Children and the Green Bear Project was reviewed by Kim Begley. She will be securing a speaker for the April meeting on the subject.
Nelda Crader reported a change of date for collecting signatures for Tune Out Violence. The club will be at Wal-Mart Supercenter in Jackson at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Begley led a discussion on preparation for the December County Council meeting where the Oak Ridge FCE will serve as host. Marilyn Retherford, president, reflected on past themes used and suggested that be a first issue in preparation.
Carole Jo Byrd conducted a well received program on "Meetings with a flair."
