Grace United Methodist Women met March 12, with 13 members present. The meeting was opened with a devotional by Crystal Laiben on Bible verse Matthew 22:37, that true success is complete surrender, just as Jesus asks us to come in complete surrender. He patiently and tenderly waits for us. The devotional was ended with a prayer.
Alice Niswonger, president, opened the business meeting with reading of the minutes, which were approved. Jean Wetzel, treasurer, passed out the financial statement and she explained there are expenses incurred for the bazaar to be paid. The report was approved.
Shauna Long, vice president, announced the program for the April Tea will be Options for Women.
Old business: Niswonger reported the March 3 sale went extremely well. It was hard work, but workers said it was fun and enjoyable. The group received many compliments from those coming and purchasing.
A motion was made to have the sale in 2017 and was seconded by Laiben and voted for by those present.
Members were reminded to continue saving soup labels, box tops and used postage stamps.
New business: The district spring meeting will be April 9 at New Salem UMC at Daisy; UMW Sunday is Mother's Day, May 8; food bank April 7; spring tea is at 2 p.m. April 16 and members should bring a stuffed animal for Beacon Health Center; Day Apart is at 9:30 a.m. June 25 at Zion United Methodist Church at Gordonville. Grace UMW will host the fall meeting and Mini-School of Missions on Oct. 8. Plans will be finalized and preparations will be made at the September meeting. There won't be a business meeting in April.
The program of prayer and self-denial was given by Laiben and assisted by several readers. She read Jeremiah 29:7, 11 and 12. Jeremiah called the community in exile to work together and share. God will give a future and hope.
The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met March 15 at the home of Cathy Pancoast. Susan Benton, president, led the meeting with seven members present.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read.
Debbie Balsano showed the Easter baskets the club will be using for the Easter egg hunt for the Lambda Omicron chapter. Members then filled plastic eggs with candy. Hot dogs, chips, dessert and juice boxes will also be served.
Members will attend the Community Counseling Center Wine Tasting event on April 8. On April 9, members will help at the Special Olympics event being held at the Show Me Center.
New officers were elected for next year: Debbie Balsano, president; Sandy Ross, vice president; Kathy Kiefner, treasurer; Tammy Hahs, corresponding secretary; Cindy Propst, recording secretary; Susan Benton, city council representative; and Cathy Pancoast, secret pal.
The next meeting will be at the home of Linda Biri on April 5.
