The Cape County FCE Quarterly Council meeting was held on March 7 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Call to order was made by JoAnn Hahs, president, with pledges to the American and Missouri State Flags. "America the Beautiful" was sung by all to the tune of FCE Club Collect. Roll call was made with 12 members present.
The devotion entitled old is good in some ways was given by Town and Country FCE Club member Sue Jones.
Mary Klaproth, secretary, read the minutes from December 2012 meeting. A correction was made and approved.
Jean Rehak, treasurer, passed out the treasurer reports and they were approved.
Correspondence was reported by Jones. She sent nine thank-you cards and a condolence card to Bert Seyer's family for the passing of their mother.
Klaproth, tour chairman, reported due to the decline in FCE members who participated in tour activities last year, only one tour will be made this year. Cape Girardeau County FCE members and friends will go to The Muny in St. Louis to see "Nunsense" on July 2. Before seeing the musical, dinner will be at the Spaghetti Factory. The deadline for reserving your seat will be June 14 and the cost will be $87 per person. Please call Verla Mangels at 573-266-3379 to make reservations.
Winners of the County FCE Literacy/Art Contest for fourth-grade students was announced: first place, Emma Higgins of Immaculate Conception in Jackson; second place, Paige Beussink of St. Vincent De Paul School in Cape Girardeau; and third place, Claire Southard, St. Vincent De Paul School in Cape Girardeau. Also, congratulations was made to all fourth-grade students who participated with the Six Pillars of Character Contest.
Hahs updated the changes to the Missouri State reports. The theme for 2013 will be on action, leadership and education within the FCE Clubs.
Child Advocacy Day will be April 2 in Jefferson City, Mo. Klaproth reported all dolls should be brought to the All Clubs Day on March 25.
2013 County-Wide Community Project will be making Autism blankets and other items again this year. A committee was formed for additional items the club could make: Committee members will be Ruth Petzel, Barbara Barks, Sharon Bogenpohl, Klaproth and Gosche.
Leadership training will be held Monday at the Jackson Extension Center with registration at 9 a.m. with classes being at 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on new health plan and food from foreign countries and 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Autism and the dangers of vitamins and supplements. Call 243-3581 to register.
All Clubs Day will be March 25 with registration at 10 a.m. and the program starting at 10:30 a.m. Kage Club will serve as hostess and Cheerful Country Doers will have devotions. Judie Herbst, program chair, will have in the morning session, interpreter services from SADI, and the afternoon session will be Riverbend Honey Bees with Jeff Erlbacher. The following FCE members will be receiving the member recognition with a certificate and/or pin: 15 years: Betty Dellinger, Oak Ridge FCE; 40 years, Karen McLane, Lamplighters; 40 years, Lois Seabaugh, Town and Country; 45 years, Jobyna Daume, Kage; 45 years, Sue Jones, Mary Klaproth and Darlene McCain, Town and Country; 60 years, Carole Jo Byrd, Oak Ridge; and 60 years, Dortha Strack, Kage FCE.
Autism items sew day will be at 9 a.m. April 9. Hahs encouraged all members who can attend to be there as this is a county-wide FCE project.
Strack announced the SEMO District Fair Board has eliminated the booths for Cape County FCE Clubs.
The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Feb. 19 at Beef O Brady's and March 5 at the home of Linda Biri.
The state convention will be held Oct. 11 through 13 in Jefferson City, Mo.
Polo shirts for chapter members have been ordered. A discussion was held about various service projects.
Kathy Kiefner presented the program on Feb. 19 about U.S. presidents. A pledge ritual for Candi Brazil was held at the March 5 meeting.
The next meeting will be Tuesday at the home of Cathy Pancoast.
