The American Legion Unit 63 Auxiliary met Feb. 10. Lunch was provided by Edna Smith and Barbara Yallaly.
The minutes from the January meeting and the treasurer's report were read and approved.
Yallaly opened the business meeting with the pledge to the U.S. flag and the auxiliary preamble and Catherine Allison led a prayer.
Linda Kern reported that Poppy Day is set for May 13 with stations at Wal-Mart and Food Giant.
Kern announced that membership is now at 104 paid members.
The purchase of a new printer to be used for auxiliary business was approved.
Members were reminded to bring items for the Amen Center, which now has 88 residents.
Allison presented a short program in honor of Four Chaplains Day, which was on Feb. 3. Four candles were lit and Allison read the story of their heroism aboard the USAT Dorchester on Feb. 3, 1943. At that time, these brave men gave up their life jackets and were lost when the ship went down.
Work on the quilts for Good Hope Camp, which was to take place after the meeting, was postponed due to snowy weather.
The next meeting will be March 9, with lunch at noon.
The Town and Country FCE Club met Feb. 11 at the home of Mary Klaproth. The devotion was given by the hostess. Darlene McCain sponsored a game by giving each member crepe paper strips and a pipe cleaner to assemble a flower bouquet for the president, Klaproth. Sue Jones gave the roll call, with members replying with their known allergies. Also, a thank-you note was read from Linda Thompson thanking the club for her retirement lunch at Gordonville Grill. The treasurer's report was given by Donna Woolsey and Pennies for Friendship were collected.
Klaproth reported that cupcakes and soda were delivered to Cottonwood Treatment Center for a Valentine's Day party for residents on Feb. 10. The club will deliver bingo prizes to the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau on March 17. A St. Patrick's Day party for Parkview State School was tentatively set for 2 p.m. on March 17. Lois Seabaugh is in charge of picking up donated ice cream cups from Prairie Farms Dairy for the event.
Members filled out registration forms to attend leader training at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson on April 4. Only one training session will be held this year for 2016 club programs.
Recipes were handed out for the clubs' international dinner on Afghanistan. McCain is in charge of obtaining a speaker for the program to be given after the meal.
The following announcements were made: a council meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, at the Extension Center in Jackson; weighted blanket work day will be March 8 at the Extension Center lower level; All Clubs' Day will be March 28 at the Extension Center lower level. Oak Ridge FCE Club is in charge of arrangements.
Klaproth announced that she has completed the 50-year membership application for the club. Also, the County Achievement Report and Community Successful Report on Cottonwood Treatment Center have been completed.
Members were asked to mark their calendars for the Spring District Meeting to be held April 21 in Doniphan, Missouri. Thompson and the club will receive 50-year membership certificates at this meeting. All members were urged to attend.
Club Out will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Dexter Bar-B-Que in Jackson.
The program was given by Joyce King on "Allergies versus Intolerance." All members participated in reading Hearth Fire Series No. 60 on "What is Maternal Health?"
The clubs' international dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 18 at the home of Jones. Members will prepare authentic Afghanistan dishes for the meal. Members are to bring candy to the meeting for Easter treat bags to be delivered to Cottonwood Treatment Center.
