Town and Country FCE Club held its annual club anniversary party and pound auction Jan. 9 at Grecian Steak House.
The meeting was called to order by Linda Thompson, president. Members repeated the pledges to the United States Flag and Missouri Flag. The devotion was given by Thompson and roll call was "My New Year's Resolution."
Minutes from the December meeting were read by Darlene McCain and the treasurer's report from December was given by Mary Klaproth.
During the business session Thompson thanked Dean and Sue Jones for removing Christmas displays at Cape County Park and Jackson City Park. Thanks was also extended to Lois Seabaugh and Klaproth for delivering Christmas treat bags Dec. 19 to residents at Cottonwood Treatment Center.
Klaproth reported on the Cape Girardeau County FCE Christmas meeting. It was approved at that meeting the club in charge of All Clubs Day and Christmas FCE Council meeting will collect $5 from each person attending to cover expenses for supplies needed to serve the noon luncheon. The group also voted to discontinue favors for each individual at these meetings.
The club constitution and bylaws were read to members by Thompson. No changes were made to either article.
Forms for volunteer hours and Golden Bookmark were collected for 2013 to be sent to the FCE State organization and blank forms for 2014 were distributed.
Members decided to continue projects already in place for Cottonwood Treatment Center, the Lutheran Home, Parkview School, and Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry. Bingo prizes for the Lutheran Home and Valentine cupcakes and soda for Cottonwood Treatment Center will be distributed to each organization during February.
The hostess gift was won by Karen Murphy. Secret pal birthday cards were exchanged by members.
The meeting concluded with a pound auction to benefit the club treasury.
The Xi Nu Phi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Jan. 21 at the home of Debbie Balsano. It was announced that there will be an international convention at Kansas City, Mo., in August 2016. The chapter approved the International Beta Sigma Phi Endowment Fund grant proposals.
Members signed up for the Valentine banquet which will be held Monday at Cape Girardeai Career and Technology Center.
A Bunco night was held Jan. 11 at the home of Balsano. The next social will be attendding "Peter Pan" at the River Campus March 2.
A discussion was held on participating in a fundraiser through a local restaurant. Sheryl Smith will check on it and let members know the date and place. The funds collected will be donated to the AMEN Center.
The Special Olympics track and field event will be held this spring and the chapter will help with meals again. Cindy Propst will check on this.
Scrapbook items were turned in to Sandy Ross. Members will vote for the chapter Valentine queen at the next meeting.
Members are asked to give a donation in lieu of a Valentine gift to their secret pal. These funds will be given to the local chapter of the American Heart Association.
Balsano presented the program on Cloud photo storage and photobooks with Shutterfly.
