Lamplighters FCE

Because of inclement weather, the January meeting of the Lamplighters FCE was held Feb. 6 at the home of Bev Meyer. President Linda Sebaugh called the meeting to order followed by the hostess' devotional.

The club's yearbook was reviewed. All voted to contribute 25 cents at each meeting to increase the club's treasury.

A vote was taken and passed to have a booth at SEMO District Fair and to continue having a Christmas display at Cape County Park.

Verla Mangels gave a program about quilting.

American Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary met Feb. 12 at Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

The charter was draped for Ann Hefele. A annual memorial service was held for the four Army first lieutenants who died to save four soldiers when the U.S. troop transport Dorchester sank Feb. 3, 1943.

A miniature traveling trunk was presented to membership chairman Freida Howard for going one over the membership goal. The trunk is part of the state membership gimmick. Howard, the representative to the SALT Council, announced three upcoming events: a session for the community to get acquainted with police and their work at 9 a.m. March 12; a 6 p.m. memorial service March 14 to be held at Cape County Park for law officers who lost their lives in the line of duty; and a senior information day from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 30 at St. Mary's School. These events are sponsored by SALT and Community Caring Council.

Education chair Marilyn Ritter announced she delivered scholarship applications to Central High School, Notre Dame Regional High School, Saxony Lutheran School and Eagle Ridge Christian School. Legislative chair Dorothy Klein asked for members' support by writing or calling congressmen asking them to pass an amendment to protect the country's flag from desecration.

So far one member has collected seven pounds of tab tops for Ronald McDonald House. Others were challenged to keep their tab tops.

Linda Lumis and Kathy Yallaly, two unit 63 members, participated in the trivia games for Habitat.

Girl's State chairman Caryn Michel said the club will select and send six young women to Girl's State in June.

A tree will be planted in Capaha Park near the baseball stadium in memory of Truman Howard. Plans are to plant the tree on Arbor Day.

Jeanette Niederkorn and Michel won door prizes bearing a Valentine motif. The monthly raffle was won by Lawana Wulfers.

Dorothy Klein asked for prayers for our 14th district president who will have surgery in the next few weeks.

Instead of a regular auxiliary meeting in March, the club will meet with the Post for a birthday dinner at 6:30 p.m. March 12. The entree will be furnished and guests are asked to bring a covered dish, salad, vegetable or dessert.

Valentine cards and candies were given out to all. Fern Schlimme gave each one present an American flag decal for their car windows.

Kage FCE

Verne Vogel was hostess and gave the devotional when the Kage FCE Club met on Feb. 13 at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center.

President Dortha Strack conducted the business session and Shirley Palen led the group in singing. Four members, Jobyne Daume, Linda Farrow, Inez Statler, and Strack each received a reply from members of the armed forces who had received Christmas greetings from the club.

It was voted to send money to the Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship Program to purchase hay for horses.

Members will be seeking signatures to "tune out violence" on TV on April 5.

Mini programs on "Emergency First Steps" and "Someone's K.I.S.S.ing in Public" were given by Joan Meyer and Palen.

The March 13 meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at the Extension Center in Jackson. Members will each make a pillow under the direction of Meyer.

Scottish Rite Men's Club

The Scottish Rite Men's Club met Feb. 12, with the theme of Valentine's Day decorating the Masonic Lodge lower level meeting place.

President Harold Coarse opened the meeting with a moment of silence for deceased members. Congratulations were given for birthdays and anniversaries.

Stanley Beggs showed a movie presenting a missionary trip to Jamaica along with his wife, Ladonia Beggs, and several doctors. There were seven denominations with 17 churches participating in the trip.

Al Mason informed the group that Joe Belles installed new wiring with CD sound and new amplifiers in the public address system throughout the building.

Doors prizes of buckets of candy were won by Irene Tidall, Mary Frey and Evelyn Barker.

The next meeting will be held March 12.

Quest Club

The Quest Club, MFWC, met Feb. 12 at the home of Grace Hoover at Saxony Village.

The program topic was show and tell of interests and hobbies, presented by all members.

Every year the Quest Club sends one or two students on the Sophomore Pilgrimage to Jefferson City. Carol Blue is in charge this year and she reported on her progress in choosing a student.

Hoover reported on plans for the Fall District Convention to be held at Grace United Methodist Church in October.

The next meeting will be held at the home of Dorothy Miles at 1135 N. Henderson Street, Cape Girardeau. The Missouri Department of Transportation will present a program on the progress of the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge.

VFW Post 3838 Auxiliary

The VFW Post 3838 Ladies Auxiliary met Feb. 13 at the post. Debbie Griffin presided over the meeting. New members installed were Judy Borneman, Beverly Morris, Brenda Stanton, Margie Huber, Margie Loos, Tracy Watkins and Alice Heckrotte.

Donations were made to VFW National Home and Past National Presidents' Scholarship Fund. Smoke detectors were donated to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department.

Members brought cookies for Adopt-A-Unit Program that were given out on Feb. 14. Members also brought items for the Women's Safe House.

The report was read on a Council of Administration meeting; district 15th won second place on the state level.

Bingo will be held Feb. 22 at the Missouri Veterans Home. Helpers are needed at 1:30 p.m.

Steak night will be from 5 to 8 p.m. March 1. Proceeds will go to the DARE Program. Pies and cakes are needed.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. March 13 at the Post.

Town & Country FCE

The Town & Country FCE Club met Feb. 13, at the home of Mary Klaproth.

President Linda Thompson called the meeting to order and Klaproth read a poem "My Valentine Wish." Darlene McCain read the minutes of the January meeting and Heise read the treasurer's report. One visitor was present, Judy Johnson.

Shirley Heise, program chairman, instructed everyone in making a "modge podge" plate.

The leader training meeting was discussed. It will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on March 31 at the Extension Center.

The bylaws were amended to elect officers in August instead of October.

A thank you was read from the Lutheran Home for gifts received from the club. Each member received a handmade Valentine from the residents.

The All Clubs Day report for 2002 was received.

Town & Country FCE will host the All Clubs Day on March 24. More plans were finalized for the event.

"Tune out violence" sheets were given to each member along with the volunteer hour sheets for 2003.

Club Out will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at Pasta House.

Norma Schreiber won the attendance prize, a heart-shaped box of chocolates.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on March 13 at the home of McCain.

Fruitland 4-H Club

The February meeting of the Fruitland 4-H Club was held Feb. 4, at the VIP Industries Building at Fruitland. Matt Bollinger presided over the meeting and Jill Walther led the pledges. Twenty-nine members were present. Susan Hinkebein, club leader, was present as well as 16 parents and other guests. Dustin Estes gave the treasurer's report.

Amanda Landgraf and Bollinger gave separate demonstrations regarding how to make pancakes. Laura Puchbauer gave a demonstration on meat identification. The club decorated 56 valentine cupcakes for VIP Industries. Members brought valentines and participated in fun stations.

The Bollinger, Burrows, Cowell and Berry families provided refreshments.

A project meeting was held on Feb. 13 at VIP. The members got to meet their new project leaders and set goals for the year. The next meeting will be held March 4 at VIP.
