Nancy Hunter NSDAR
The Nancy Hunter Chapter of NSDAR met Jan. 25 at Cape Girardeau Public Library. Clarence W. Suedekum spoke on the subject of history of the steam boat, "Sultanna." Co-hostesses were Carol Geittman and Jeannine McGinnis.
Sharon Rowland, regent, led the group in the opening rituals. She told the group she was stepping down as regent due to health problems.
It was voted to send a donation toward the purchase of a flag pole at Fort D.
The chapter was awarded a certificate of outstanding accomplishments in Chapter Achievements Award level 3 for the 2004 to 2005 year from National.
Edna Ruth Fischer asked the group to accept proposed membership of Julie Unnerstall. Other prospective members are Glenda Seabaugh and Maxine Mitchener of Cape Girardeau, Stephanie Thompson and Ruth Ladd of Chaffee, Mo., and Vanessa Murray of Sedgwickville.
The secretary report was approved and Ruth Lang gave the treasury report.
The next meeting will be Feb. 25 in the Hirsch Room at Cape Girardeau Public Library. It will be the Good Citizens and American History Awards.
The Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Marilyn Schwab for their January meeting. Linda Metheny served as co-hostess. Margaret Little, president, presided over the meeting.
Members brought items for Project Hope, which is the chapter's monthly service project.
Members were reminded of the annual all-chapter Valentine dinner/dance to be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jackson on Feb. 10.
A special dinner meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at Cedar Street. This will be the chapter Valentine dinner and gift exchange.
Considerations for March functions are the play at Southeast Missouri State University, "The Tender Land," or seeing a production at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis.
Mary Schwab presented the program, "The History of St. Valentine."
The next regular meeting will be on Feb. 27 at the home of Marsha Parrish.
The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met Jan. 19 in the Monsignor Huels Room. Diane Schaefer, vice president, sent 12 birthday cards.
It was voted to send a donation to NCCW Annual Giving Campaign. The group will also collect household cleaning supplies, toiletries, etc., for the Women's Safehouse at the February meeting.
Dolores Gibbar reported that 19 bereavement dinners were prespared in 2005, serving 1,100 people.
It was suggested that the office of president and vice president be changed to one-year terms. This will be voted on at a later date.
Georgia Howe spoke about the Meals on Wheels program.
The next meeting will be Feb. 16 in the Monsignor Huels room. The Rev. Patrick Nwokoye will show slides of his trip to Italy.
