The Cape Girardeau County FCE All Clubs Day was held on March 25 at the Cape Girardeau County Extension Office in Jackson. Kage FCE Club was in charge of registration, name tags and decorations.
Call to order was made by JoAnn Hahs, president of Cape County FCE.
The pledges and devotion was made by Ruth Petzoldt from Cheerful Country Doers.
Mary Klaproth, recording secretary, had the roll call with 38 members and a guest present.
The morning program was from the interpreter services at SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence by Maria Rearden and Jackie Cole. Cole, who is hearing impaired, gave her life story with Rearden interpreting. Members had many questions to ask about different services SADI provided.
Emma Higgins from Immaculate Conception School in Jackson was the FCE Literacy Essay Contest winner. She who won first place in Cape Girardeau County and first place in district and her essay will go to the Missouri state level. She read the essay during the morning session.
Lunch was served with dishes provided by members and Kage FCE Club providing the meat and bread.
The afternoon program was announced by Shirley Palen, presiding president-elect. Jeff Mayfield, from River Bend Apiary (honey bees). Mayfield's family has many bee hives and sell honey at Food Giant in Cape Girardeau and Sikeston, Mo. Many questions were asked and Mayfield provided answers to how the bees pollinate flowers and other vegetation to make their honey.
Mary Gosche, Human Development specialist from The University of Missouri Extension Service, gave a review of 2012 Cape Girardeau FCE Clubwork.
Hahs announced those receiving Gold Awards were, Oak Ridge, Kage, Lamplighters, Town and Country and Red was Cheerful Country Doers.
Jean Rehak was hostess at the March 19 Oak Ridge Homemakers FCE Club meeting. Nelda Crader, president, called the meeting to order. Roll call was made with 13 members.
Barbara Barks, secretary, and Pat Hecht, trreasurer, gave their reports from February and both were approved.
Crader received a correspondence from The Salvation Army needing food items and the club voted to send a check which was used for the March project.
Four members from Oak Ridge FCE attended leadership training at the Extension Center in Jackson on March 18. Those attending were Mariesa Lesch, Peggy Barks, Marilyn Retherford and Barbara Barks.
Child Advocacy Day was held in Jefferson City, Mo., on April 2 with the club sending three dolls.
It was announced the FCE spring meeting will be held May 14 in Patterson, Mo.
The program mini vacations was by Carole Jo Byrd but due to sickness Retherford gave program. All chose a U.S. state where they have taken a short or extended vacation.
Bingo with the Missouri Veterans was on March 25 with Jean Rehak, Betty Dellinger and Barbara Barks helping.
Rehak and several members brought desserts for the meeting for all to enjoy.
The New Salem Methodist Church in Daisy provided the setting for the Lamplighters FCE March Spring Fling. There were 11 members and 11 guests present. A meal prepared by club members was served. A version of "The Price is Right" revealed which attendees were the best shoppers. Verla Mangels read a memorial tribute she had written for Bert Seyer.
During the business session, the following actions took place: A thank-you note was received from the Bert Seyer family; members were reminded to give their coins to Linda Sebaugh for the P.E.T. project; Teresa Hinkebein reported she purchased three dolls for Child Advocacy Day; four members -- Jo Ann Hahs, Jackie Kurre, Sharon Bogenpohl and Mangels -- attended leaders training meeting on March 18 and will present their programs later this year; a report was given on the County Council meeting held March 7; it was decided to bring trimmed coupons to the next meeting to be sent to military personnel.
Based on the report given by Judy Myers, it was decided to host a June Birthday Party at Jackson Manor. A committee of volunteers -- Myers, Mangels, Kurre and Hinkebein -- will plan the program for that day. Bev Meyer, Bogenpohl and Hahs will bake cupcakes for the event.
A schedule for reading to the Oak Ridge Elementary students was distributed. Modifications were made to accommodate member's plans.
Members were reminded of the April 9 Autism items workshop day that will begin at 9:00 a.m.
