The Cape Girardeau County All Cubs Day was held on March 22 with 40 people in attendance. Town & Country FCE Club served as hostesses
Inez Statler, president, called meeting to order with the pledges to the United States and Missouri Flags, Ruth Petzoldt gave the devotional "Are you tired?"
JoAnn Hahs displayed some of the material for making blankets for the Touch Point Autism Center in Cape Girardeau.
Mariese Lesch from the Oak Ridge club gave the morning program "All about autism"
The Oak Ridge club announced they will be having their annual sale at the Elks Lodge in Jackson on May 6 and 7 with money raised for the Christmas baskets to be given away in December at the Elks Lodge.
Kate Appleman, a fourth-grade student at Immaculate Conception School in Jackson, came and read her article on "Fairness," that she was awarded first place in the county and also the district. She is now eligible to go to the state competition.
After lunch, JoAnn Hahs, dressed as the Statue of Liberty, read a book about the Lady Liberty and Linda Sebaugh showed slides from all over the country about the book. This is one of Lamplighters FCE Club projects. They go to Oak Ridge and Patton schools and visit the fourth and fifth grade students.
Nelda Crader, vice president, had a game "decades games," for the afternoon program. She would ask questions and we would answer what decade we thought it occured. We also played Bingo.
Membership pins where given out by Karen Mclane: five years to Linda Freeman of Lamplightters and Judy Niswonger of Town & Country; 10 years to Linda Sebaugh of Lamplighters; 15 years to Lee Anderson of Oak Ridge; 30 years to Shirley Palen of Kage; 35 years to Sharon Bogenpohl of Lamplighters and Judie Herbst of Kage; 40 years to Roberta Seabaugh and Jackie Kurre, both of Lamplighters; 45 years to Verna Vogel of Kage and Bert Seyer of Lamplighters; and Dorothy Lichtenegger of Wonderworkers.
Also club recognition was given to Kage Club for being 65 years old.
Mary Gosche showed slides of each club and annouced the Club of the Year: Kage received honorable mention; Oak Ridge received third place; Towm & Country received second place; and Lamplighters received the club of the year award.
All sang the Club Collect and Town & Country gave out door prizes which was lillies and pansies.
Xi Nu Phi of Beta Sigma Phi met April 6 at the new Cape Public Library. Betty Martin, library director, gave us a very extensive and informative tour. She discussed the architecture of the new library, the inspiration from the Mississippi River. We reviewed new stations, catalog areas, computer rooms, all very modern and user friendly.
The library also has a very large section for Genealogy studies and references, study rooms that are sound proof and with TVs for video studies.
Xi Nu Phi volunteered for the Special Olympics on April 10 at the Show Me Center. The day was very exciting for all the award winners and their family.
New officer induction will held in May.
The New McKendree United Methodist Women met April 13 in fellowship hall with 31 members present. The meeting was opened by Gladys Nitsch, vice president, leading the members in the reciting of the UMW Purpose.
The minutes of the March meeting were read by Gale King, secretary, and approved. The treasurer's report was given by Marilyn Fronabarger and approved.
Edith Eggers and Fronabarger announced that there were some new books in the UMW library.
June Engel announced that she will be reporting next month of the new equipment needs in the kitchen.
There were 22 New McKendree United Methodist women who attended the Spring district meeting at the New Salem Methodist Church in Daisy on March 20. Margaret Zieba, from Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, was named UMW District Woman of the year for Missouri.
Shirley Patterson, education and interpretation chairperson, reported that the subjects for study at the August Mini-School of Missions will be: "John's letters," "mission and evangelism" and "Sudan." Patterson urged members to get their registrations turned in early.
Patsy Johnson, Marilyn Lewis, Eggers, and Engel from the Ruth Circle served the birthday party at Jackson Manor in April.
The Spring Fling Tea will be held at 2 p.m. on April 25 in fellowship hall. Laura Jo Smith reminded members to invite friends. Jean Seers will be the featured speaker for the event.
Julie Combs asked all to save items for the church yard sale to be held on May 27 through 29 South Campus on Highway 25.
The Ruth Circle won the attendance ribbon with 80 percent of their members present.
The next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. on May 4 in fellowship hall.
Bernice Chastain gave a program on a book by Jean Bell Mosley.
Refreshments were served by the Ruth Circle.
