Alpha Mu Master
The Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Bernie Gardner with Martha Slaten serving as co-hostess.
A vote was taken to approve all of the Beta Sigma Phi Endowment Funds for this year.
Marilyn Schwab and Margaret Little presented the program, "The History of Groundhog Day."
A special meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at My Daddy's Cheesecake.
The next regular meeting will be Feb. 28 at the home of Mary Schwab.
New McKendree UMW
The New McKendree United Methodist Women met Feb. 5 in the church fellowship hall with 23 members present.
Mary Klaproth, president, presided over the meeting.
Cindy Gjerstad, a member of New McKendree's Vision Team, spoke about the team's purpose and mission statement as it relates to the mission statement of New McKendree United Methodist Church. She distributed questions to be considered and answered by the March meeting.
Betty Henry, secretary, read the minutes of the December meeting and the minutes of the January Mission Team meeting. They were approved as written. She also read correspondence from Jackson Manor and Klaproth.
Tandy Wendel, treasurer, distributed copies of her report and it was accepted.
Edith Eggers, program resources, presented books for members to check out for the UMW Reading Program.
Willa Dean Propst, spiritual growth, asked for prayers for our military and our leaders.
Winnie Dumey, membership, reminded everyone to sign the attendance book.
Following a discussion, Eglena Davis moved that the chairwomen of Supportive Community, Wilma Wilcoxson and June Engel, purchase all supplies needed for bereavement meals. Members will still supply the desserts. The motion was seconded by Amy Cook and passed.
The Circle attendance report was, Ester, two; Hope, two; Wesleyan, seven; Mary & Martha, eight; and members at large, six.
Circle chairwomen were reminded to discuss the following: a coordinator for the 100-Mile-Yard sale in May, nominations for the Southeast UMW Woman of the Year and cakes for the UMM fish/chicken fry Feb. 23. Both church sites will be open by 9:30 a.m. for the delivery of cakes the morning of the dinners.
Plans for UMW weekend on March 8 and 9 were discussed. Elizabeth McClary will speak at all four services during the weekend. Serving as ushers for the Saturday service will be Violet Reynolds and Kim Bonney; ushers for the 8 a.m. Sunday service will be Sue Smith, Eggers and two others; ushers for the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service will be Amy Cook, Eula Limbaugh, Winnie Dumey, Naomi Hartle and Gale King. Liturgists will be Betty Henry and Laura Jo Smith. Sherry Hammes will present the children's message. Serving South Campus will be Tandy Wendel, Jamie Stroder, Marilyn Fronabarger, Julie Rushing and Rebecca McFarland.
Julie Combs moved that the UMW sponsor the radio broadcast for the UMW weekend. The motion was seconded by Pat Holloway and passed. Propst moved that flowers be placed on the altar that weekend in memory of past UMW members. The motion was second by Wendel and passed.
New McKendree will host World Day of Prayer on March 7 with registration starting at 1 p.m. and the service beginning at 1:30 p.m. Each circle and group will provide three dozen cookies, breads, etc. Limbaugh moved that all other supplies be purchased for the event. The motion was seconded by Davis and passed.
Cook will continue to collect Best Choice labels for the group.
Propst presented the program, "Call to Prayer and Self-denial." Envelopes for contributions were distributed.
The next general meeting will be at 7 p.m. March 4 in the fellowship hall. The program will be presented by members at large with fellowship by Mary & Martha Circle.
A stone soup was served by the Mission Team.
