Sedgewickville UMW

The Sedgewickville United Methodist Women met Nov. 14 at the home of Allison Shrum and made plans to host a chili-soup supper from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday. It will be held in the church fellowship hall.

Also, a country store with crafts and baked goods will be held on the same day. An afghan made by Teresa Payne will be raffled off. The proceeds from the raffle will be given to Birthright.

Other plans were made for the group Christmas dinner and party to be held Dec. 12. Spouses will be invited to the party.

American Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary met for lunch Nov. 14 with Dorothy Klein and Catherine Allison serving as co-hostesses. Patsy Kimbrel, president, presided over the meeting and asked chairwomen to give reports on their committees.

Frieda Howard, membership chairwoman, reported 25 more members are needed to reach the auxiliary goal. Howard also serves as SALT representative, and she reported that Dec. 13 will be the 11th annual Tour of Lights at Cape County Park. Those planning to go on the tour should call the Cape Girardeau Senior Center. After the tour, there will be refreshments and door prizes.

A motion was made to send money for a Christmas gift shop at the VA hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Myrna Powers reported she took snacks and soda to the students at the Cape Girardeau Alternative School. Apples will be taken to a school for the teachers in observance of education week.

Kimbrel visited Brownie Troop 336 in October. Brochures titled "Keeping Halloween Safe" were given to all the girls. Snacks were also taken and plans were made for the girls' Christmas.

A thank-you note will be sent to Freeman Lewis for auditing the auxiliary's books.

The VFW post Christmas dinner will be held Dec. 12, and the auxiliary's Christmas party will be held Dec. 17 at the home of Robert and Edna Smith.

Food items were brought to the meeting for Red Star Food Pantry and Christmas gifts were brought for Jefferson Elementary School Christmas gift store.

Town & Country FCE

Town & Country FCE Club met Nov. 8 at the home of Sue Jones for a chicken and dumplings supper. Nine members and two guests were present. Mary Klaproth, president, opened the meeting.

In observance of Veterans Day, special guest was Kenneth G. Heise of the 1140th Engineer Battalion in Cape Girardeau. He showed videos and shared memories and pictures of his deployment in Iraq.

Klaproth thanked everyone who helped at the Parkview State School Halloween party Oct. 25. Jones also presented a $250 check to the PTO president. The club received the grant money at the MAFCE Conference in Sedalia, Mo. Klaproth also reported that she completed a HEED grant application for Parkview.

Thank yous were also given for help and donations at the Cottonwood Treatment Center Halloween party Oct. 28, the hayride at Beggs Orchard on Oct. 29 and the garage sale Nov. 3 at the Osage Community Centre.

Jones reported she had mailed all the club's Military Mail.

A report was given on the leader training meeting held Nov. 2. The next leader training meeting will be March 31.

The December council meeting will be held Dec. 6 at the Extension office in Jackson.

The club decided to give donations to the Salvation Army Thanksgiving meal, the Tree of Lights and Christmas treat sacks for Cottonwood Treatment Center.

The Christmas party will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at Pagoda Gardens. All members are asked to bring a toy for Toybox.

New officers for 2008 will be installed at the December meeting.

Judy Niswonger and Doris Wilkerson presented the program, "Someone's in the USA -- showing respect for the flag" in observance of Veterans Day.

Kage FCE

The Kage FCE Homemakers Club met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for its monthly meeting. Verna Vogel served as hostess. Dortha Strack opened the meeting.

Members were reminded about the day they are supposed to go to Jefferson Elementary School for the "Reading is Grand" program.

A report was given on the family dinner at Ryan's restaurant that was held Oct. 16 in observance of FCE week.

Members brought Christmas cards for the Military Mail project. Shirley Palen mailed them.

Inez Statler, Martha Slaten, Opal Collins, Barbara Marshall and Strack attended an assembly at Jefferson Elementary School to present grant that the club had received for their reading program.

Linda Farrow, Statler and Strack attended the leader training meeting at Farrar, Mo.

The Cape County FCE Council Christmas party will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 6 at the Extension Center in Jackson. There will be a covered dish luncheon and those attending are to bring an item for the silent auction.

Kage Cub presented the 4-H Project Leader Award to Pam Oehl.

An invitation was received from David and Barbara Schaffner to attend their 50th anniversary party on Dec. 15 at St. John's United Church of Christ.

The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 13 at the home of Judie Herbst.

Statler presented the program, "How to live to be 100."
