Arnsberg 4-H Club
The Arnsberg 4-H Club met Aug. 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim with 14 members, eight leaders and four guests present. Ethan Seyer, president, presided over the meeting. Michaela Oehl and Chelsea Seyer led the songs and Kyle Rohde led the pledges.
Members reported on 4-H camp, the family picnic and county achievement.
Tyler Lappe, Amanda Lappe, Dustin Oehl, Ethan Seyer and Chelsea Seyer gave demonstrations at the Missouri State Fair. Several members had projects on display also.
Amanda Lappe will participate in 4-H State Fashion Review.
Members decided to celebrate the clubs 60th birthday with an open house. Information will be displayed at local fairs. All past members, leaders, parents, volunteers and anyone who has helped the club is invited. It will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church hall in Friedheim with church service following at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and memorabilia will be on display. It was decided to have a float in the East Perry County Fair parade. Upcoming fairs were discussed.
The club will work at the SEMO District Fair food stand Sept. 15.
A thank-you card from Tyler Lappe was read thanking the club for its donation on his trip to the National Youth Focus in Washington, D.C.
The following project meetings were discussed: Katie Oehl on sewing; Amanda Lappe on sewing and crafts; Dustin Oehl on poultry; and Dakota Oehl on poultry, woodworking and crafts.
Wonderworkers FCE Club
The Wonderworkers FCE Club met Aug. 9 at the home of June Langraf. The meeting was called to order by Dorothy Lichtenegger, president.
The hostess read a devotion by Joe Olsteen. The SEMO District Fair booth was discussed.
Landgraf gave the program on grandparenting.
A vice presidents' meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.
The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the home of Nell Kieninger.
St. Mary CCW
The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met Aug. 16 in the Monsignor Huels Room.
Dolores Gibbar reported that one bereavement dinner had been served in the last month.
The 2008 Spring Assembly will be held in Poplar Bluff, Mo., on April 18 and 19. This is the 50th anniversary of Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, and 50-year members will be recognized.
A special meeting for leaders of the circles involved in the community garage and bake sale will be held prior to the next meeting. The sale will be Oct. 20 in the parish gym.
Rose Pobst presented a program on her recent trip to Europe. She had photos of many shrines and churches in Italy and Poland.
The next meeting will be a covered-dish supper at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Monsignor Huels room.
American Legion Post 158
The Althenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 met July 10 with Dick Decker, commander, presiding over the meeting.
The minutes from the June meeting were approved as amended.
Kenny Koehler gave the baseball report. Larry Koehler gave the financial report. P.M. Kurre reported membership is at 617, with 53 who have not paid this year. Lou Crites gave the flag report.
Byron Fluegge gave the trustees' report. He discussed the air conditioner in the club room.
Jim Nelson reported on public relations. Nelson gave a donation to the American Legion Memorial Scholarship fund in memory of Elmer Southard.
Dave Hitt reported that the honor guard had a service for Buddy Sebastian. He made a motion to pay for the honor guard picnic. The motion was seconded and passed.
Mike Strack gave the flag report, Larry Koehler gave the dance report, Dave Ludwig reported on Americanism, Ketih Seabaugh reported on visitation, and Virgil Whitener gave the house report.
Bill Sullivan gave the club room report. Decker mentioned the alcohol policy and that the bartenders are getting certification.
Decker read the correspondence from the Sebastian family and the veterans home on the golf tournament.
Decker presented recruiting awards. Those receiving awards were Bill Poe, Vince Schwartz, Bill Sullivan, Virgil Whitener, Mike Strack, Byron Fluegge, Harold Landgraf, William Keene, Larry Koehler, P.M. Kurre, E.P Kurre, James Roche, Thomas Sperling and James Blakemore.
Fluegge is resigning as trustee, and John Hopkins made a motion to nominate Bill Adams as trustee. The motion was seconded.
Decker present Dave Ludwig the Americanism Award.
There will be an honor guard meeting Monday.
