St. Mary Cathedral Council of Catholic Women met April 19 in the Monsignor Huels room.

Attorney Diana Howard spoke about wills and estate planning. She stressed the importance of naming a durable power of attorney and one for health care. Pat Eftink, treasurer, distributed copies of the treasurer's report.

Church Women United will conduct May Friendship Day at 6 p.m. Friday at Maple United Methodist Church.

Ellen Shuck, director of religious education, led the Bible study in conjunction with the CWU meeting April 13. Nancy King and Margie Huber will check on the date for the Fall bake, craft and garage sale.

The next meeting will be May 17 in the Monsignor Huels room and will feature the annual May crowning.

The Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR met April 25 in the Hirsch Room at Cape Girardeau Public Library. Dorothy Points, regent, opened the meeting with the opening rituals. Co-hosts were Patsy Robert and Mick Stiver.

Jeannine McGinnis gave the national defense report, and Points read the president general's message. Ruth Lang gave the treasury report, and Catherine Allison, secretary, read the minutes. They were both approved.

Kathie Jo Mothershead, a participant in the club's Good Citizens awards, sent a note of appreciation to the club.

Points gave a report on her trip to the 108th state conference in Columbia, Mo. Nancy Hunter Chapter received three awards: a certificate of appreciation for the chapter's growth; a certificate of appreciation for transfer of historical records, which will be kept at Roslyn Heights archives; and Missouri State Society of DAR for selecting DAR Good Citizen's awards, students that have demonstrated the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

Don Pemberton, husband of Barbara Pemberton, was a guest, and he was presented with a certificate for Conservation Award. He and his family were recognized for planting trees every year to promote conservation.

The chapter is looking for any member who has a farm that has been in the same family for 100 years or more.

The next meeting will be held at noon May 23 at the Cape Girardeau Country Club.
