Wonderworkers FCE Club

The Wonderworkers FCE Club of Cape Girardeau County met at the home of president Margie Reisenbichler earlier this month. After calling the meeting to order, Reisenbichler read "Things I Give Thanks For" and led the group in saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

Nelda Starzinger reported on the district meeting. Members then decided to send embroidery floss to Calcutta, India, and Christmas cards to American service men and women.

Members also filled bags of treats for V.I.P. Industries employees and scheduled the group's Christmas party for Dec. 12. Starzinger presented a program called, "Families Now and Then." Officers were elected and refreshments served.

St. Mary CCW

The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women held a memorial service for deceased members Nov. 21 at St. Mary Cathedral. Candles were lit for 21 members. The meeting followed in Maria Haus.

Margie Huber reported that a meeting of officers and commission chairpersons was held to plan the programs and activities for the coming year. Judy Vicery will be our International Commission Chairperson since she is the Region VII chairperson for International Concerns. Craft items and baked goods are needed for the Christmas Craft and Bake Sale to be held after the 5:15 p.m. Mass on Dec. 7, and all Masses on Dec. 8.

Lawana Wulfers, Church Women United representative, announced that Jesus' birthday party will be held Friday, Dec. 6, at Grace United Methodist Church. Bring three dozen cookies. St. Mary will host Hospitality Day on Jan 29.

Six ladies attended the Region VII meeting at Glennon, Mo. "Christmas Traditions" were shared.

The group will meet in the school cafeteria on Dec. 19, for a covered dish supper. After attending the Christmas Novena, they will return for dessert and a social.

Oak Ridge FCE

Mrs. John Popp Jr. was hostess for the Oak Ridge Homemakers FCE Thanksgiving dinner. She prepared the turkey with other members bringing the side dishes. She also voiced the noon prayer.

Marilyn Retherford, president, opened the business meeting. Nelda Crader read the minutes and Billie Criddle gave the treasurer's report. Crader gave the devotion, "Precious Gifts."

The club voted to donate two dolls for Advocacy Day. It was also voted to give $100 to a family that lost their home due to fire. Tickets and money was collected for the quilt to be given away at the December Council meeting. The quilt was made by Agnes Wachter.

Servers for December will be Carolyn Jo Byrd, Crader and Criddle. Cards were signed to be mailed to club members who weren't able to attend the meeting.

Jean Rehak and Retherford will be in charge of the club's Christmas display in the Jackson City Park. Rehak displayed pictures and presented the program on Lewis and Clark. Retherford received the hostess gift.

The December meeting will be held in the home of Retherford.

Eastside Homemakers

The Eastside Homemakers met Nov. 20, for a meeting and luncheon at Delmonico's in Jackson. Sally Powell presided in the absence of the president.

Devotion was given by Helen Humes on "There is no van."

The program given by Powell was "No Home for Thanksgiving," "Thanksgiving Rebellion" and "Thanksgiving Every Day."

The secretary's report was given by Janet Piepenbrok.

The next meeting will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 18 at Reflections restaurant in Jackson.

Members are asked to bring food for the food pantry.

Wednesday Club

The GFWC Wednesday Club met Nov. 20 in the dining area of Chateau Girardeau. Inez Morrison was hostess.

The group went to the lounge in the health center for the program. Marcia Southard Ritter presented "Honduras" with video and explanation. She and her husband, the late Dr. C. John Ritter, lived for three months at a clinic there. They were called as medical missionaries.

Jan Steck, president, presided over the meeting. Morrison, corresponding secretary, read notes from Joyce Peerman of Jackson, and Agnes Simmons of Sydney, Ill.

It was suggested we give the GFWC logo, which was made for the 100th birthday celebration, to the University Archives where the club history is stored.

The next meeting will be Dec. 18.

Lamplighters FCE

The Lamplighters FCE met Nov. 21 at the home of Verla Mangels. The meeting was called to order by Linda Sebaugh.

Quilt tickets sold by members were collected. The proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.

Details were given about the district meeting and Christmas party to be held Thursday at the district office in Jackson.

A Christmas display was assembled at the Cape County Park by Larry and Dorothy Hahs, Bob McLane and Teresa Hinkebein.

Tree decorations were collected to be given to the club's adopted family.

JoAnn Hahs gave the program, "Air Quality in the Home."

The next meeting will be held Dec. 19, at the home of Judy Meyers.

Exchange Club

The Cape Girardeau Exchange Club met Nov. 19 at Port Cape Girardeau.

The ham & beans day held Nov. 7 went very well.

Larry Simon requested members to keep in mind about the bell ringers program in December.

Council of Garden Clubs

The fourth quarterly meeting of the Council of Garden Clubs of Cape Girardeau was held Oct. 10 at the Family Life Center at Centenary United Methodist Church. President Barbara Blanchard called the meeting to order.

Arbor Day chairman Nadine Davis thanked everyone for their participation and attendance at the Ramblewood Garden Club Workshop that featured Flower Show designs and techniques.

The Rose Garden Committee Chairs, Judy Holshouser and Blanchard, presented a plan to create a board of directors for the Capaha Rose Garden to be established in January of 2003. The board will be comprised of nine members: one member from each garden club; a representative from the Parks and Recreation Department; a community representative interested in preserving the rose garden; a representative from the Council of Garden Clubs; and the president of each of the garden clubs shall act as honorary members. The goal of this board is to make recommendations for the future of the Rose Garden. The board would be responsible for overseeing the yearly maintenance and hiring a paid worker for the Rose Garden. A motion was made by Osburn to accept the committee's recommendation to establish a board of directors. Each club will send the name of a board member to Holshouser or Blanchard.

Because of the good response, the council thinks it would be a good idea to make the Spring Fling Luncheon an annual event.

The council wishes to thank Hannah Maddox for writing an article in the fall edition of "The Garden Forum" reporting the council's Rose Garden Festival on June 5.

Davis reported that Bud Davey would be able to put a water line from the Rose Garden to the existing Butterfly Garden to assist in watering that section of the rose garden.

The next council meeting will be held Jan 9.
