The New McKendree United Methodist Women met in the fellowship hall on Dec. 3 with 32 members present. The meeting was called to order by Mary Klaproth, president. The UMW Purpose was recited. The minutes of the last meeting were read by secretary Pam Buck and approved. Marilyn Fronabarger, treasurer, gave the monthly treasurer's report.
Chairperson reports were given:
Doris Dace, spiritual growth, read a poem from the Gordonville newsletter.
Penny Green, social action, will shop for the club's Christmas family with the money collected from the circles.
Inez Statler, membership, announced she will have two helpers next year, Anna Wannamaker and Tandy Wendell.
Jan Birk, mission ribbon, shared a feature ribbon for the month and encouraged members to buy ribbons.
Elwanda Corbin, bereavement, reported sharing with two families this month.
Material was purchased and Doris Dace volunteered to make table centerpieces for the fellowship hall. Tina Crites is asking for bias tape, rickrack and lace for little girls' dresses to be sent to Haiti.
The Legislative Event will be March 4-5 in Jefferson City, Mo. Money is budgeted for registration and the registration deadline in Jan. 31.
The United Methodist Men's fish fry is Jan. 18 and cake assignment for circles was announced.
The Mary and Martha Circle won the attendance ribbon for tonight's meeting.
The 2014 program books are ready and can be picked up.
There are two recommendations for special mission recognition pins which will be presented on UMW weekend.
It was decided to have a Mission Team meeting at 1 p.m. Jan. 14. There will be no general meeting in January and the Feb. 4 meeting will be a Stone Soup luncheon.
The program was given by the Members-at-large, a play written by Patsy Johnson. Klaproth closed the meeting with a reading from the Prayer Calendar. 
The John Guild Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met Nov. 20 at Delmonico's in Jackson with Pamela Johnson, regent, presiding. In honor of Good Citizen Month, four high schools in the surrounding area were invited to submit the name of a senior whom they consider to be their outstanding Good Citizen. Good Citizen Chairman Adelaide Parsons presented the four students: Julie Aufdenberg, daughter of Mark and Wanda Aufdenberg, representing Saxony Lutheran High School; Hannah Myers, daughter of Scott and Sandy Myers, representing Meadow Heights High School; Sam Lowes, son of David and Susan Lowes, representing Jackson High School; and Mikayla Marler, daughter of Shawn and Misty Kirkpatrick, representing Woodland High School.
Each student was presented a certificate, a card and a pin. The four students were invited to apply for a $500 state scholarship competition. The competition involves completing a statement about themselves and their activities and writing an essay. Those who complete the process at the local level will be judged by a group of three independent judges from the education field and one will be picked to compete at the state level.
Also, at the dinner meeting, Barbie Stroder and Matt Bassinger presented a slide program on the Lower Deck Cemetery in Marble Hill, Mo., and the students of Woodland School District who are volunteering their time to help restore this old cemetery.
John Guild Chapter is providing some financial support to the cemetery project in keeping with its obligation to historic preservation.
The Town and Country FCE Club held its Christmas dinner and party on Dec. 12, at Pagoda Gardens in Cape Girardeau. Joyce King and Mary Klaproth were in charge of arrangements for the party. Sue Jones, president, presided over a brief business meeting. Klaproth gave the devotion, Christmas Candy. Pennies for Coins for Friendship were collected. A Christmas movie trivia game was played.
New 2014 program books were completed and distributed by Linda Thompson.
Members brought Christmas treats and assembled the treat sacks for Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center. Secret pal gifts were exchanged and names drawn for the New Year.
Karen Murphy installed the new officers for 2014 with a candle installation and all officers received a candle. Linda Thompson, president; Lois Seabaugh, vice president; Darlene McCain, secretary; Mary Klaproth, treasurer; Sue Jones, reporter; and Donna Woolsey, cards and flowers.
The next meeting will be the club's annual birthday party which will be held on Jan. 9, with McCain and Thompson in charge of arrangements. Members will be notified of the location of the party at a later date. It will include a "pound auction" for a money-making project.
