Club news 12/21/05

Hobbs Chapel UMW

The Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Women met Dec. 6 at the church.

A short business meeting was held and $60 was donated to the church basketball team and $50 to the Delmo Wardrobe in Hayti, Mo.

A shower was held for Birthright and many gifts and cash donations were made to the organization.

A devotional was read by June Warder, and a meal was served by Clara Engelmann and Tish Butler. Games were led by Warder.

Fruitland 4-H

The Fruitland 4-H Club met Dec. 6 at the County Extension Office. Lacey Stadt, co-president, presided over the meeting. Nick Fosse led the pledges.

There were 20 members, four leaders and 11 other adults present.

Jill Walther gave the secretary's report and Blake Leadbetter gave the treasurer's report.

VIP Christmas gifts, fundraising report and membership forms due were discussed.

Paul Lichtenneger and Adam Pleimann led the games and Josh Walther led the songs.

The next meeting will be Jan. 3.

Cape County AARP

The Cape County Chapter of AARP 4041 met Dec. 12.

New officers were installed. They are, Marcie Fullers, president; Laverne Nothdurft, vice president; Opal Collins, secretary; and Ann Smith, treasurer.

New members are Pat Hill and Alfred Friga.

A holiday party was held with music provided by Brucie Woods.

The next meeting will be Jan. 9.

Kage FCE

Members of Kage FCE Club met at the home of Judie Herbst on Dec. 15 for their Christmas luncheon. The meal was prepared by Shirley Palen and Herbst.

Contributions were to be sent to Toybox, Christmas for the Elderly, the Salvation Army and Teen Challenge.

Program books for 2006 were distributed and there was a Christmas gift exchange.

Joan Meyer read a letter she received from Mike Hathaway who is serving in the military in Afghanistan.

The next meeting will be Jan. 12. It will be hosted by Palen and the program will be on jewelry making, which will be given by Herbst.

New Salem UMW

The United Methodist Women of New Salem Church in Daisy met Dec. 7 at Delmonico's restaurant in Jackson for a Christmas party and meeting. Dorothy Hahs, president, opened the meeting.

Jackie Kurre installed the officers for 2006. They are, Hahs, president; Shirley Grebe, vice president; Betty Hahs, secretary; and Roberta Seabaugh, treasurer.

Christmas gifts were exchanged and secret pals were revealed. New secret pal and elderly secret pal names were drawn.

A special offering was taken for our adopted elderly secret pal to end the year.

The next meeting will be Jan 4. at the home of Verla Mangels.

Nancy Hunter Chapter

The Nancy Hunter Chapter of DAR met Nov. 30 at the Missouri Veterans Home to share a meal and Christmas party with six female residents. The residents furnished dinner for the group.

The DAR presented the six residents a poinsettia and Carolyn Geittmann made cookies to share with all.

A short business meeting was held. Dorothy Points was appointed delegate to attend the 107 State Conference to be held April 27 through 30 in Capital Plaza, Jefferson City, Mo., with alternates, Ruth Lang and Kathy Tolson.

The next meeting will be Jan. 25 at Cape Girardeau Public Library with Clarence W. Suedekum as the guest speaker.

Church Women United

Church Women United met Dec. 3 at the new facility of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. Members brought gifts for children whose mothers are in prison. These gifts will be distributed by Patch.

Michele Moon, president, presided over the meeting and a cookie exchange was held. Deb Tracy is collecting the cookie recipes for a cookie cookbook she is planning. Carol Simon, a member of New McKendree, told about the church's new facility which is used for the contemporary service and other events.

Joyce King announced that the CWU State Assembly registration forms and the agenda for the assembly will be available soon. The church van of Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau will be used for transportation to the assembly. Dolly Jewell announced that she hoped several members will be attending the assembly since the group is in charge this year. It will be held March 13 and 14 at the Rickman Center in Kansas City, Mo.

The next Bible study and board meeting will be Jan. 6, at Jesus Es El Camino, 612 Broadway, Cape Girardeau.
