SEMO HOG
Southeast Missouri Harley Owners Group recently elected new officers for the upcoming 2008-2009 year: Steve Floyd, director; Tom Hinkebein, assistant director; Margaret Sanders, secretary/membership; Bob Moser, treasurer. Officers duties will begin Jan. 1.
SEMO H.O.G. meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge in Cape Girardeau. If interested in becoming a member, you may contact Minor's Harley Davidson at 573-334-7716 for more information. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.
Xi Nu Phi
The Xi Nu Phi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Oct. 21, at the home of Susan Benton. A chapter rush was held. Mary Beussink, Sue Harris and Tori Welch were welcomed as guests.
Members who attended the Preferential Tea held Oct. 19 reported that it was a very nice and elegant event. Members also reported on the bonfire social held Oct. 18 at the home of Renee Hesselrode. The next social event will be the Nashville Flea Market trip on Nov. 22.
The chapter will make a monetary donation to "Dig for Life" which is sponsored by St. Francis Medical Center and the Southeast Missouri State University women's volleyball team. This is a fund for women who cannot afford to have mammograms.
Scrapbook items were turned in and secret pal gifts were distributed. Sandy Ross presented the chapter scrapbook to Linda Biri. Members presented "A Sisterhood Salad" skit to the guests and everyone decorated pumpkins.
Town & Country FCE
The Town & Country FCE Club met for a luncheon and business meeting. Judy Niswonger served as hostess.
Marcia Clark, elementary school counselor/psychometric examiner, presented the lesson on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Prizes for bingo at the Lutheran Home were discussed.
Members celebrated MAFE by planting a tree at the Extension Center in Jackson, putting up the display from the SEMO District Fair booth in the window at Ross Furniture in Jackson and attending New McKendree United Methodist Church as a group.
Six Town & Country members attended the FCE State meeting in Cape Girardeau.
Sue Jones will mail the Christmas cards collected to send to the military. Lois Seabaugh read a response from a troop member who received a card last year.
Members brought dolls for Advocacy Day. These dolls will be taken to Jefferson City for distribution.
The Christmas display will be set up in Jackson City Park and Cape County North Park at 10 a.m. on Nov. 22.
Members should bring items for the food pantry to the November meeting.
Linda Thompson gave the program, identity theft.
Shirley Heise will host the November meeting.
St. Mary CCW
The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met Oct. 16 in the Huels room.
Sister Lucille Zerr, community commission chair, reported that two members attended the Missouri Catholic Conference held in Jefferson City, Mo.
There are four ladies who quilt each week and 28 work at the Food Pantry.
The bake sale will be held Nov. 22 before and after the evening masses and from 6:30 a.m. to noon on Nov. 23 or when everything is sold.
The next meeting will be on Nov. 20 in the Huels room. A memorial service will be held for deceased members.
Fourteen members were present at the October Lamplighters FCE Meeting, hosted by Bert Seyer. Linda Sebaugh called the meeting to order. Roll call was answered with final donations for Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund, with a total of $155.00 collected. Linda Freeman distributed pocket calendars compliments of National Cancer Society.
A large assortment of baby food items and baby cereals were purchased and taken to Birth Right by Teresa Hinkebein and Seyer as one of the community projects for 2008.
It was reported that over 150 guests attended the 100th birthday of Delos Seabaugh. Club members made and served over 12 gallons of homemade ice cream for the party in Daisy.
For National FCE Week, Committee members, Jackie Kurre, Dorothy Hahs, Judy Myers and Linda Freeman shared pictures and reports on the Chamber of Commerce "Business after Hours" evening. The Lamplighters provided authentic appetizers from eight countries and displayed items that came from each country at the Riverside Regional Library in Jackson. Friends of the library provided and served beverages.
Bogenphol gave a program, how to spot and report fraud and protecting your credit.
The November meeting will be held at the home of Gayla Volz. Roll call will be a pumpkin exchange. Everyone was encouraged to be creative when choosing their pumpkin or pumpkin items. The program will feature Verla Mangels and Freeman demonstrating how to make gifts in a jar just in time for the holiday gift giving.
