UCT Council #534

The United Commercial Travelers Council 534 met Oct. 11 at Cape Girardeau Public Library with Sheila Holloway, senior counselor, presiding. The safety committee report was given and pictures of the two youths who received the bicycles from the Library Reading Program were presented by Jobyna Daume, chairwoman. This will be entered in the Council in Action Contest with Supreme.

The SEMO District Fair report was given by Dorothy Points, chairwoman. The fair stand was located at the south end of the Arena Building. Construction of the stand and electrical work was done by Roy Rhodes and Rodger Brown and Sharon Polito and Rhodes took it down.

The club would like to thank the community for its support. Money received each year stays in the community. Some of the club's donations go to the Salvation Army Turkeys in November and December, FISH Food Pantry, Marine Corps League Toys for Tots at Christmas, the Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship program and CPR training for two volunteers, Horizon Enrichment Center for Intellectual Disabilities, SADI, SEMO Hospice, Cape Girardeau Jaycee's Christmas party for the elderly, Safe House for Women, and the USA Veterans Fourth of July community picnic and fireworks. Also, a protective vest for a policeman was purchased. $500 was given to a club member with cancer and to a widow of a member who had cancer. These reports were submitted to Council in Action Contest at Supreme.

Daume attended a friendship dinner with the Perryville, Mo., council on Sept. 29.

A motion was made to give $1,000 to FISH Food Pantry.

The club's Christmas party will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at Port Cape. The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Holiday donations will be discussed at that meeting.

St. Mary CCW

St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met on Oct. 20 in the Huels Room. The Luminous Mysteries of the rosary in honor of Mary, queen of the rosary, was prayed.

Marge Conway reported that 25 or 30 people gathered at Sprigg and William streets on Oct. 15 to pray the rosary in response to "America Needs Fatima."

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Officers in attendance were Kate Schaefer, president; Mary Ann Hennecke, vice president; Pat Eftink, treasurer and Imelda Nenninger, secretary. Judy DeClue, past-president, was absent.

Eftink distributed copies of the treasurer's report. This was an itemized summary of activity from May 19 through Oct. 20.

Thank-you notes were read from the families of Edna Schwartz and Steve Grah for serving the bereavement dinners. Also a note was received from Andrew Williams.

Officers were installed at the Region 7 meeting held in New Hamburg, Mo., on Sept. 20. The next Region 7 meeting will be Nov. 14 at Oran, Mo.

A memorial service for deceased members will be conducted at the next meeting Nov. 17.

The meeting closed with prayer.
