Lou Ann Zuffuto and Gwen Nussbaum hosted the most recent meeting of the John Guild Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at Jackson Public Library.
Morgan Lake gave a presentation on Pearl Harbor and reminded the group that Dec. 7 will be the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese.
New members Laura Ruth Daugherty, Kelsey Tuschhoff and Tammy Pleimann were accepted into the group and were give a packet which includes the DAR Handbook.
The John Guild Charter of the Daughters of the American Legion installed new member state Rep. Donna Lichtenegger at the home of Zoffuto during the official visit of state regent Donna Nash.
Town and Country FCE Club met Nov. 10 at the home of Darlene McCain, president. She gave the devotional titled "Thanksgiving Day." A game called harvest word puzzle was played, with Sue Jones winning a cupcake candle as a prize.
Pennies for "Coins for Friendship" were collected. Plans were finalized for being hostess to the FCE Council meeting Dec. 1, with registration at 9:30 a.m. and meeting starting at 10 a.m. at the Cape Girardeau County Extension Center in Jackson.
Jones will be in charge of setting up the Christmas display Dec. 1 in Jackson City Park.
It was voted to make a $25 contribution to the Salvation Army for their Thanksgiving meal and $25 to the Tree of Lights. Members brought toys for the holiday Toybox drive to be delivered to the Jackson Police Department.
Mary Klaproth presented the program "Diabetes: Prevention and Control," along with Hearth Fire Series 18, "Woman to woman: Do I Have Diabetes?" assisted by all members.
The club's next meeting on Dec. 8, at Pagoda Gardens in Cape Girardeau, will include a Christmas dinner at 6:30 p.m. Members are to bring secret pal gifts. McCain will install the officers for 2012.
Refreshments on a Thanksgiving theme, were served by the hostess and Lois Seabaugh received the hostess gift.
The American Legion 158 in Jackson met Oct. 11 with David Ludwig, commander, presiding over the meeting. John Jordan, sheriff of Cape Girardeau County, presented a program on law enforcement officer stress and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Gary Kamp motioned to approve the minutes from the September meeting.
Larry Koehler gave the finance report and that Homecomers will be held July 24 through 28 in 2012.
Gerry Keene announced that there are 367 members in the legion.
Lou Crites gave the graves report. Mike Strack gave the trustee's report and flags report and read a thank-you card from New McKendree United Methodist Church for the flag. Bill Poe gave the service officer report and announced the children's Christmas party will be held Dec. 18.
Virgil Whitener gave the hall report, P.M. Kurre gave the club room report, Joe Don Randol gave the dance report, honor guard report and Missouri Veterans Home bingo report.
