Laureate Alpha Rho
The Laureate Alpha Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Sept. 15 at the home of Dorothy Miles, with president Rosie Whitnel presiding.
It was reported that the chapter received a three-star rating for the past year. Lists of the 2005-2006 city council officers and upcoming citywide events were passed out.
Bonnie Hennessey reported that the Beta Sigma Phi Christmas decorations for Cape County Park have been discontinued. She also reported that a check for Hurricane Katrina Relief had been mailed and that chapter dues are now being collected.
Erma Vaughan reported on plans for the Exemplar-Preceptor dinner to be held Nov. 17. Laureate Alpha Rho will be the host.
A Christmas party will be held Dec. 1.
Edna Hey reported on the cards she had sent for the past month. Whitnel brought everyone up to date on the plans for the state convention to be held here this month. The chapter will be in charge of hospitality.
Members were reminded to continue to send cards and letters to Norma Schrieber, who is reciving cancer treatments in Tulsa, Okla.
Miles presented a cultural program, a book review on three stories taken from the book "Small Miracles in Everyday Life."
The next regular meeting will not be held. Members will held decorate for the convention on Thursday.
The Lamplighter's FCE Club met at the home of Brenda Joggerst on Sept. 8. The hostess gave the devotional. The meeting was called to order by Bert Seyer, vice president.
Members were invited to share thoughts and comments on the prior month's homecoming event whic celebrated the 40th anniversay of the Lamplighter's Club.
The members are continuing to bring food items for the needy in the community. Linda Sebaugh gave a report the FCE council meeting held Sept. 1.
It was announced that the fall leadership training sessions will be held Nov. 4 in Perry County. The location will be announced at a later date. The topic will be the new food pyramid, jewelry making, domestic violence and gardening for birds and butterflies.
An election for upcoming year officers was held. They are: JoAnn Hahs, president; Seyer, vice president; Jackie Kurre, secretary; Gayla Volz, treasurer; Sharon Bogenpohl, song leader; Beverly Meyer, game leader; and Teresa Hinkebein, public relations.
The program, "No Child Left Behind," was given by Kurre.
The October meeting will be an international meal on Oct. 20 at the home of Volz.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Ladies' Guild met Sept. 19 in the church fellowhip room. President Amber Kuehn presided over the meeting.
Donna Magwitz and Christy Benton presented a dialogue, "She Taught Me to Eat Artichokes: the discovery of the Heart of Friendship" by Mary Kay Shanley.
Dorothy Schuessler announced workshop dates for making Psalm 23 bracelets, a current project. Another fund raiser approved is the annual pecan sale to begin in November.
Hostesses for the "surprise menu" were Judy Borgfield, Linda Engelmann and Frankie Allison.
