Kage FCE Club met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center Oct. 12 with Jobyna Daume serving as hostess.
Leader training workshops are scheduled for Nov. 13. Several members will attend one or more sessions to present programs to the club in 2007.
A program on time management, household record keeping and household tips was presented by Martha Slaten.
Linda Farrow will host the next meeting Nov. 9.
The Town & Country FCE Club met Oct. 12 at the home of Inez Knott. Members arrived in Halloween costumes and had a pizza party before the meeting.
Lois Seabaugh, president, presided over the business meeting. A check for $50 was received from the Southeast Missouri District Fair for the club's fair booth. A note from Cottonwood Treatment Center was read, thanking the club for the recent watermelon party.
A thank-you note was received from the family of Norma Schrieber for the cards she received during her illness and the memorial gift given to the Missouri Foundation for Family and Community Education. Food pantry items were collected and Darlene McCain volunteered to deliver the goods to First Baptist Church.
Members turned in their Christmas cards for the military and Sue Jones will package them for mailing. All members brought Halloween candy to be given to the Cottonwood Treatment Center. It will be delivered at 4:45 p.m. Thursday. After this, members will go to China Buffet in Cape Girardeau for club out.
Members were reminded of the Nov. 4 garage sale at the Osage Community Centre. Members will meet at 6 a.m. to get articles priced for the sale that begins at 8 a.m.
FCE leader training will be Nov. 13 at the County Extension Center in Jackson. Registration is from 6 to 6:15 p.m.
Carolyn Thompson presented the program on time management. The Nov. 19 meeting will meet with McCain.
The Heartland Advanced Practice Nurses Network in collaboration with Southeast Missouri Hospital, Saint Francis Medical Center and District Eight Nurses Association, presented a dinner meeting forum for discussion of access to health care in Southeast Missouri. The event was hosted by Saint Francis Medical Center and was attended by about 100 advanced practice nurses, APRN students and legislators, Rep. Nathan Cooper and Rep. Billy Ray Wright.
Speakers were Karen Hendrickson, RN, of Southeast Missouri Hospital; Linda Brown, APRN; Eric Robbins, R.Ph.; Patti Sohn, APRN; Judy Hoditz, APRN; and Bobbi Morris, APRN.
The Oak Ridge Homemakers FCE Club met Oct. 17 at the Elks' Lodge in Jackson. Jean Rehak, president and meeting hostess, presided over the meeting.
Ruby Hitt and Marilyn Retherford reported they had visited Oak Ridge Club's adopted families.
Retherford, representing Cape Girardeau County FCE, also reported having delivered literature to 17 classes for the organization's Literacy Contest.
The group discussed and decided to use the same officers for 2007 as had been elected in 2006. They are, Rehak, president; Retherford, vice president; Nelda Crader, secretary; and Billie Criddle, treasurer. Song, game leader and historian will be elected at the Nov. 14 meeting. The meeting will be at 11 a.m. at the Jackson Elks' Club. Members will bring salads for lunch.
Betty Dellinger, Crader and Retherford will plan and prepare program booklets to be given out at the January meeting.
Leader training at the Extension Center in Jackson Nov. 13 will be attended by Rehak, Dellinger, Retherford and Crader.
Members will bring and address Christmas cards at the November meeting. Decorations for the Jackson City Park's Christmas display will be placed at no. 17 by Retherford and Rehak.
Criddle has placed school supplies at Oak Ridge Elementary School and received acknowledgement.
Workers for Jackson Manor in November will be Carole Jo Byrd, Criddle and Dellinger. Volunteers for Missouri Veteran's Home bingo in October will be Rehak and Dellinger.
The Church Women United of First Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau met Oct. 6. Bible study was lead by Donna Komorech. This was to prepare the group for World Community Day, which will be Nov. 3. Michelle Moon, president, presided over the meeting. The minutes and treasurer's report were read and approved. A thank-you note from Meta Siemers was read.
A report on the Awareness Lunchon was made. It was held at New McKendree United Methodist Church South Campus in Jackson. Dr. Frank Nickell gave a talk on the history of the area churches and how they played a role in settling the region.
The Rev. Joe Trower of Jefferson City, Mo., brought quilts that will be auctioned at the Festival of Sharing in Sedalia, Mo., Saturday to raise money for blankets through Church World Service. Table decorations were brought by women form Grace United Methodist Church and Marilyn Fronabarger was hostess for the salad luncheon.
Members were reminded that the next meeting will be the World Community Day at First Presbyterian Church at 9 a.m. Nov. 3. The December meeting will be at Maple United Methodist Church Dec. 4 and Jesus' birthday will be celebrated by members bringing "white gifts" for Birthright, Safe House for Women and Cape Girardeau County Jail. These new gifts include socks, underwear, diapers and other items that are white and agencies can use.
The scholarship committee will be meet in early 2007 to discuss scholarship applications. Ruth Schweer, Doris Ford and Ilena Aslin will serve as co-chairwomen.
Nominations for officers will be presented at the next meeting and voted on in January.
Vicki McKinney was hostess at the meeting for Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. The Exemplar Degree Ritual was held for Bernie Gardner, and the Pledge Ritual was held for Martha Slaten. McKinney, president, presided over the meeting.
An invitation was received for the annual Exemplar Preceptor Dinner Nov. 9 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Tickets will be ordered for "The Many Moods of Christmas," a concert by the Southeast Missouri State University Orchestra and Choral Union Nov. 28 at Academic Auditorium. Slaten is a member of the choral group.
Marilyn Schwab was presented with the traditional "Chapter Wedding Basket" for her daughter, Ginger, who recently was married .
A genealogy program was presented by Vickie and R.J. McKinney. McKinney also shared the article, "How to survive a heart attack when alone."
A report was given on the 2006 Missouri Beta Sigma Phi State Convention held in Springfield, Mo., Oct. 6 through 8. The convention was attended by Carole Calvin, Judie Herbst, Dixie Jones and Bobbie Woodard.
The next meeting will be at the home of Gardner.
The Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club met at Jay's Smokehouse in Jackson for their October meeting. Luella Armstrong presided over the meeting.
Program chairwoman, Evelyn Ritchie, and hostess, Armstrong, lead the group in playing the game "Choice."
There are no meetings scheduled for November, December, January and February. The next meeting will be March 12 with a location to be announced at a later date. Violet Reynolds and Freeda Smothers will serve as hostesses and Vesta May Meyer will be program chairwoman.
