St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met on Sept. 15 in the Huels Room. President Kate Schaefer opened the meeting with prayer.
Dolores Gibbar, bereavement chair, said two bereavement dinners were served.
There were no commission reports.
The Voice for Life Convention, a pro-life support organization, will be held Oct. 22 in Leopold, Mo. It was moved by Diane Schaefer that we place an ad in the convention program. Motion carried.
In response to "America Needs Fatima", Marge Conway will host recitation of the rosary at noon on Oct. 15. Location is to be determined.
Birthright expressed gratitude for donation for computer.
Coffee and donuts will be served on CCW Sunday, Oct. 30. Weather permitting, it will be held outdoors.
St. Vincent de Paul will have its big Ugly Quilt project on Oct. 28 and 29. All are invited to help for a few hours or all day.
The CCW holiday bake and craft sale will be held in the school cafeteria after all masses on Dec. 3 and 4. This is the major fundraiser for the year.
The Christmas party will be held Dec. 15. Brenda Kuhn will sing and play keyboards.
Dr. Kondra Andrews will present the program on chiropractic health at the January meeting.
Since October is the month of the rosary, we will pray the rosary at the Oct. 20 meeting. Becky McClean will demonstrate her rosary project for the missions.
Refreshments were provided by the September circle.
Marian Kramer was hostess when the Kage FCE met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for its regular monthly meeting. President Dortha Strack presided.
Dortha's tip of the day: If pie crust browns too fast, cover edge with foil or cut bottom out of an aluminum pie tin and place rim around the pie.
Members were reminded of our Military Mail Project. The club deadline is Oct. 21. The cards should be brought to the next meeting.
Shirley Palen reported that members contributed $65 for Alzheimer's at the August meeting. This was the August club service project.
Each member was asked to bring two dolls to the next meeting for Child Advocacy Day. One doll will go to the State Project and one doll will go to local law enforcement for local children.
The club is planning to send four "Show Me Missouri" games to the "adopt a room/teacher" in Joplin, Mo. The club is assisting a fourth grade class.
The club reading program at Jefferson Elementary School will resume this month.
The fall district meeting will be held Oct. 4 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Several members will attend the meeting.
Joan Meyer presented the program for the day "Calcium and vitamin D," Hearthfire Series #27.
Barbara Marshall will be hostess for the next meeting on Oct. 13.
Teresa Hinkebein was the hostess for the September meeting of the Lamplighters FCE. There were 14 members in attendance.
During the business session, the following was conducted: Linda Sebaugh reported she had made and delivered the additional chair covers needed for the Oak Ridge Elementary School. Plans were finalized for the club's trip to Deutsch Country Days at Marthasville, Mo., Oct 15 and 16. Reports were given by Jo Ann Hahs about the quarterly council meeting and the programs planning meeting for the upcoming year. Members then volunteered for the fall leader training sessions to be held in Farrar, Mo., Oct. 28. Jackie Kurre will attend heirloom seeds, Hinkebein will attend ovarian cancer, Sebaugh will attend breadmaking, and Verla Mangels will attend disaster preparedness.
Four members, Karen McLane, Mangels, Hinekein and Hahs, plan to attend the fall district FCE meeting at the First United Methodist Church on Oct. 4 in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Next year officers as elected are: Kurre, president; Sharon Bogenpohl, vice president; Mangels, secretary; Sebaugh, treasurer; Roberta Allen, song leader; Bev Meyer, game leader; and Hahs, reporter.
Members were reminded of the following of these upcoming events: "A Matter of Balance," an eight session, two-hour workshop that will begin at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson on Oct. 2. Cost is $25. The next autism weighted item workshop is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 12 at the extension center.
The next meeting will be Oct. 20 at home of Bogenpohl. Programs planned for this meeting include: cemetery genealogy and using plastic bags.
