Arnsberg 4-H
The Arnsberg 4-H Club met Oct. 2 at the home of Kyle Rohde after attending 4-H Sunday at St. Maurus Catholic Church in Biehle, Mo. There were 17 members, 10 leaders and several guests present. Tyler Lappe, president, led the meeting. Rohde led the pledges.
The club discussed the SEMO District Fair and Altenburg Fair. The club was well represented at both fairs.
The upcoming year was discussed and the group began making plans for commitees and goals for the new year. The group was reminded to get their report forms into the office by Oct. 14.
The group also discussed their community service project, 4-H Boxes of Hope, which is a program to provide necessities for 4-H victims of Hurricane Katrina. They are also writing letters to Louisiana 4-H club members as a part of this program.
Linda Rohde gave a health presentation on sugar in soft drinks.
The meeting adjourned and games were played and refreshments were served.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church hall in Friedheim. This will be the Halloween party.
The Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 met Aug. 2 with Commander Gary Kamp presiding. Chaplain Boyd Summers offered the opening prayer.
Jim Rouche was introduced to the members and welcomed to the meeting. He has been a member for 18 years but had not attended a meeting.
The minutes of the July meeting were approved as written and Richard Aguilar gave the financial report. P.M. Kurre reported that membership is at 631. Mike Strack reported on flag sales.
Jim Nelson reported contributions to the post memorial scholarship fund were from Don and Judy Starzinger in memory of Robert Hutson and from John Crites in memory of Verlin Statler and Hutson.
Virgil Whitener gave the house report, Jack Latimer gave the club report and Leonard Adams reported on dances.
Dick Decker, adjutant, informed the members that the printer no longer worked and made a motion to buy a new one. The motion was seconded and passed.
Keith Seabaugh, district commander, installed the 2005-2006 post officers. They are Larry Koehler, commander; Kurre, first vice commander; John Hopkins, second vice commander; Decker, adjutant; Aguilar, finance officer; Bill Poe, service officer; Nelson, historian; David Ludwig, Americanism; Summers, chaplain; Bill Sullivan, sergeant at arms; and Milford Kirn and Albert Beussink, trustees. Koehler then took charge of the meeting and closed the meeting.
The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Oct. 4 at the home of Sheryl Smith. Scholarship applications were handed out.
The cookbooks have been ordered and the tickets for the Christmas Cash Sweepstakes have been sent in. Secret pal gifts were distributed.
The planning committee for the Founder's Day banquet will meet soon.
The chapter will attend the Preferential Tea for their next meeting on Oct. 24 at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center.
