St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met on Sept. 16 in the Huels room.
Kate Schaefer opened the meeting with prayer. Mary Ann Hennecke was installed as vice-president.
Attendance: Schaefer, president; Hennecke, vice-president; Pat Eftink, treasurer; Imelda Nenninger, secretary, and Judy DeClue, past-president.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Eftink distributed copies of the treasurer's report.
Commission reports:
Legislative: DeClue has received the American flag from the VFW. She will check on a flag stand,
Dolores Gibbar reported two bereavement dinners served.
Laura Schaefer presented the program on Notre Dame Activity Week.
A letter will be sent to all ladies by Nov. 3, asking for donations of baked items or money for our fund raiser on Nov. 20 and 21.
A copy of the minutes for information will be included in the Sunday bulletin with the notice of the monthly meeting.
The council will serve coffee and donuts after the 7 and 8:30 a.m. Masses on Oct. 31.
We will pray the rosary at the Oct. 21 meeting. The business meeting will conclude with a wine tasting party. Linda Jenkins-Rechtin will give the program.
Brenda Kuhn, DRE, explained duties of a spiritual sponsor for Confirmation candidates and had a sheet for those who wished to sign up.
The annual memorial service will be held at our November meeting. Nancy King will tell of her trip to Switzerland and Irene Stevens of her trip to Ireland.
There is a new postage stamp honoring Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
Refreshments were served by the September circle.
Sister Lucille Zerr lead the closing prayer.
The September Meeting of the Young Americans 4-H Club was called to order by Claire Illers on Sept. 23 at Grace Methodist Church. The Pledge of Allegience was led by Alex Eftink and Gary Schweer led the 4-H Pledge.
September birthdays were recognized and the club sang Happy Birthday. Clayton Kirchdoerfer and Eftink led the club in singing.
Gary Schweer Reported on the state competition for trap shooting held Aug. 28, and skeet and muzzleloading competitions held Sept. 18.
Project meeting included Tori Schweer reporting on a foods meeting and a food preservation meeting. Eftink had a project report on field crops meeting and bucket calf meeting.
The members worked the SEMO District Fair stand on Sept. 14 night of the SEMO Fair and it was torn down on Sept. 19. The Ehlers Family helped with this.
Working demonstrations at the exhibit hall on Sept. 17 included Lydia Cameron with "jewelry making," Gary Schweer with "rabbits," Conner Probst on "Brachycephalic dogs," Belinda Strack on "the top ten dog breeds," Anthony Strack on "how to make a seed tape" and Tori Schweer on "making a fall hat wreath." Eftink gave a demonstration on the "amazing by-products of corn."
The 4-H window display for 4-H week will be arranged on Oct. 18. Due to the 50th anniversary of the Town Plaza, it will in the Garber's window.
The new officers were installed by Caitlen Cameron with a program of "rainbow and the pot of gold."
Mary Lou Kurtz gave a special presentation poem to Claire Illers and Tori Schweer for being ten-year members this year. Amy Kirchdoerfer presented them each with banners and Grant Schaefer awarded them ten-year membership plaques.
Katie Wilson gave a demonstration on "how to make yogurt popsicles."
The meeting was adjourned and motions made by Anthony Strack and seconded by Eftink. Refreshments were courtesy of the Kirchdoerfer and Strack Families.
The 74th Missouri Association for Family and Community Education annual conference was held Sept. 22 through 24 in St. Louis. There were 14 members from Cape Girardeau County. The theme for the conference was "tune up your life with FCE." There were several educational workshops presented. The St. Charles, Mo., Municipal Band entertained at the Thursday evening banquet.
Cape Girardeau County received numerous awards. The display board prepared by JoAnn Hahs received first place for Cape Girardeau County.
The Southwest District in Springfield, Mo., will host next year's conference on Sept. 28 through 30.
