Cape County AARP 4041
The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP 4041 met Jan. 9 with 37 members present.
The program was "History of Churches in the Cape Girardeau Area" presented by Michelle Moon, who gave a slide presentation.
Those who helped with Christmas gift wrapping at Jefferson Elementary and Blanchard Elementary schools were thanked.
A board meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Monday and the next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 6.
The Arnsberg 4-H Club met Jan. 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church fellowship hall in Friedheim with 17 members, 11 leaders and three guests in attendance. Tyler Lappe, president, led the meeting. Shelby Proctor led the pledges, and Emily Ruch and Proctor led the group in songs.
Pam Lappe handed out pins to members and leaders who hadn't received theirs yet. Project reports were given. Proctor had a vet science meeting, Amanda Lappe reported on a beef meeting, Ethan Seyer had several bucket calf meetings, and Dustin Oehl had computer and poultry meetings.
Oehl donated a book to Barnes & Noble for the Salvation Army, and Jessica Seyer reported on giving approximately $75 to an area lady whose house had burned.
The T-shirt committee presented some prices and shirt styles for the club to decide on.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church fellowship hall. This will be the annual box supper meeting.
The American Legion Auxiliary met Jan. 11 with Betty G. Cato, president, presiding. Dorothy Klein and Cato provided lunch prior to the meeting.
Peggy Blaylock, Americanism chairman, reported DVDs of "For Which It Stands" will be purchased and presented to local schools.
Gerri Stone and Edna Smith delivered 126 Christmas cards, each containing a $2 bill, to veterans residing in nursing facilities as well as several home-bound veterans.
The next 14th District meeting will be held Feb. 19 in Poplar Bluff, Mo., and the annual memorial Poppy Day sale will be held May 9.
Linda Farrow and Blaylock will serve as hostesses at the February meeting.
The Kage FCE Club met Jan. 12 at the home of Shirley Palen. Notes were received from Margaret Crites and Commander J.L. McCauley of the U.S. Coast Guard in answer to a Christmas greeting sent by Barbara Marshall.
Dortha Strack, president, reported having sent a box of home-baked cookies overseas to the troops. She also reported that some of her family accompanied her to Cape Town Nursing Home to sing carols and present gift bags from the club to the residents.
Some preliminary plans have been made for hosting the All Clubs Day meeting of Cape Girardeau County FCE Clubs on March 27.
Judie Herbst gave a demonstration on making a bracelet.
The next meeting will be host by Barbara Schaffner on Feb. 9.
The Fruitland 4-H Club met on Jan. 3 at the VIP Industries Building at Fruitland with 12 members, three leaders and three visitors present. Dustin Estes, co-president, called the meeting to order. Josh Walther lead the pledges.
Jill Walther gave the secretary's report and Blake Leadbetter gave the treasurer's report.
Reports were given on the Christmas party and the computer project.
New business discussed was the VIP Valentines, possible programs, activities, places to visit and demonstrations for the year.
Paul Lichtenegger lead the games and Walther lead the songs. Lindsey Lichtenegger provided the refreshments.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 7.
The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Jan. 17 at the home of Renee Hesselrode. A baby shower was held for Mary Stuart.
The sleepover held on Jan. 13 at the home of Susan Perdue was discussed. The upcoming citywide rush to be held Feb. 27 was also discussed.
The next meeting will be held Feb. 7 at the home of Linda Biri.
The Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Margaret Little for its January meeting. Little, president, conducted the meeting.
Members were reminded to bring items for Project Hope to the next meeting. This is the chapter monthly service project.
An invitation was received for the annual all-chapter Valentine dinner/dance to be held at the Jackson Knights of Columbus Hall on Feb. 10.
Little gave the program, "Extraordinary Origins of Everyday Things."
The next meeting will be at the home of Marilyn Schwab.
