Shirley Palen was hostess on Jan. 12 when the Kage FCE met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for the regular monthly meeting.
Dortha Strack, president, presided. Dortha's tip of the day: Allow water to become room temperature before watering plants.
Community project sheets were distributed for 2012 by Sarah Ross. This month's project was Mid-America Teen Challenge. February's project will be the American Heart Association. A collection for the American Heart Association walk-a-thon will be taken at the February meeting.
The drawing for secret pals was postponed until the February meeting. All members are to bring a Valentine to the next meeting.
Ross and Strack reported that they had delivered dolls and bears to the police department to be used for "assistance with troubled children."
Judie Herbst and Palen presented four "Show Me Missouri" games that will be sent to the fourth grade class in Joplin, Mo., that the club is sponsoring due to the tornado in May 2011. The games are being assembled with a Heed Grant that the club received for this project.
The sewing for Autism workshop will be held on Feb. 1, at the MU Extension Center in Jackson.
The following announcements were made: leader training will be March 19; all clubs day is April 2; and FCE district meeting will be April 24.
A letter was received from Charlotte Schaffner, recipient of the annual club scholarship. She is the granddaughter of member Barbara Schaffner.
Volunteer hours and book reports were collected. Inez Statler will compile the club reports to be turned into the county.
The program, a mini-lesson on ovarian cancer, and "Woman to Woman" Fireside Series 16 was presented by Ross.
Pam Morgan will be hostess for the Feb. 9 meeting.
