Exchange Club
The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met Dec. 2 and 16 at Port Cape Girardeau.
Monte Kyle presented the program on Dec. 2, and Richard Behring was in charge of the Christmas party on Dec. 16. Keith Koenig presented many Christmas carols and songs for the Christmas party.
The next meeting will be Jan. 20.
Lamplighters FCE
The Lamplighters FCE met Dec. 18 at the home of Jackie Kurre. The meeting was called to order by president Linda Sebaugh.
Teresa Hinkebein volunteered to purchase and turn in dolls for the FCE district's program on Children's Advocacy.
An installation ceremony of officers for 2004 was led by Sharon Bogenpohl. They are: Sebaugh, president; Verla Mangels, vice president; Gayla Volz, treasurer; Karen McLane, secretary; Kurre, song leader; Beverly Meyer, game leader; Roberta Seabaugh, historian; and Hinkebein, reporter.
Gifts were exchanged by secret pals and names for 2004 secret pals were drawn.
The next meeting will be on Jan. 15 at the home of Mangels.
Xi Nu Phi
Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Jan. 6 at Cedar Street Restaurant in Cape Girardeau.
Plans were made for a "rush" to be held. Members are to bring prospective names and addresses to the next meeting.
A "bunko" night for couples will be held Jan.17 at the home of Sheryl Smith.
The next meeting will be Jan. 20, in the Generations Center at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
Kage FCE
Judy Moore was hostess for the Kage FCE Club, which met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center on Jan. 8. Dortha Strack, president, led the pledges and conducted the business session.
Valentine greetings were brought by members for Military Mail. Volunteer sheets for 2004 and Tune Out Violence forms were distributed to the members.
The club will celebrate its 60th anniversary this month with a program at the University Outreach and Extension Center in Jackson on Jan. 29. In commemoration of this anniversary, the club voted to place a brick in the SEMO District Fair Association Friends of the Fair Commemorative Walk.
It was reported that six dolls were given for the Child Advocacy Day in Jefferson City, Mo., on Jan. 27. It was decided to contribute yarn to be sent to Romania, the country selected as the International Study for 2004.
Program books for the year were given out to members.
Two mini lessons were given, "Someone's in a Meeting Making Good Decisions" by Martha Slaten and "Woman to Woman Bone-Breaking Facts" by Inez Statler.
Alpha Rho
The Alpha Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held their annual Christmas party on Dec. 4 at Cape Girardeau Country Club. Secret pal gifts were exchanged and names were drawn for secret pals for 2004.
The first meeting of 2004 was held on Jan. 8 at the home of Erma Vaughan, president. Several communications from the International were read and a vote on the state service project was tabled until the next meeting.
An invitation from Epsilon Tau chapter to the Valentine's party was read and passed around. There will be cocktails, a meal and the crowning of the Valentine queen. It will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at Jackson Knights of Columbus Hall.
An update from the 2005 Convention Committee was read by Mary Ann Nenninger. The Alpha Rho Chapter will be in charge of hospitality.
A group participation program was held.
The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at O'Charley's Restaurant.
Town & Country FCE
Town & Country FCE met Jan. 8 at Dairy Queen in Fruitland. The meeting was called to order by Darlene McCain, president. She read the constitution and bylaws of the order.
It was decided that Cottonwood Treatment Center would be the special project for this year. Members turned in volunteer hours.
Birthday gifts were exchanged and all with the "pound auction" had fun. Proceeds to be used by the club for special projects.
The club outing this month will be at the Branding Iron Restaurant in Jackson on Jan. 22.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at the home of Mary Klaproth.
VFW Ladies Auxiliary
VFW Post 3838 Ladies Auxiliary met Jan. 8 at the post. Debbie Griffin presided.
The district meeting to be held at Post 3838 on Jan 25 was discussed. There will be a noon dinner and awards will be presented to Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen winners.
A donation was made to the Department Hospital Fund.
The C of A meeting will be held Feb. 6 through 8 at Jefferson City, Mo.
A Valentine's dance will be held at the post at 7 p.m. on Feb. 14. A silent auction will start at 5 p.m., with proceeds going to the cancer fund. The public is welcome.
Bingo at the Veterans Home will be Jan. 24. Help is always needed.
Steak Nite will be Feb. 7. Volunteers are needed and ladies are reminded to bring desserts.
Campbell soup labels are still being taken at the post.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at the post.
