Mrs. M is a 77-year-old woman who lives alone and does not have any family.

In ill health, her problems range from seizures to high blood pressure and a history of strokes.

Her bleak financial situation includes Social Security and food stamps but there's little left over for some of the items that are wearing out. Replacing her threadbare winter coat would make Mrs. M's Christmas happy. Dresses or night gowns in size 16 or large are other garments in need of replacing.

House shoes in size 9 wide would be greatly appreciated on mornings when the floors are cold.

Keeping warm at night for a 77-year-old woman is comforting.

A warm, full blanket or comforter would suit her nicely and some new pillows would surely make a wonderful Christmas present.

Laundry detergent and bleach, toilet tissue and an air freshener or two would give Mrs. M a little lift. Since she spends most of her time at home, it would be nice to spruce up the place a bit.

A gift certificate to Wal-Mart or Broadway Pharmacy would also be appreciated.

Living alone

Ms. O, a small frail woman, lives alone without family in the area.

Her health problems include osteoarthritis, diabetes, hepatitis C and high blood pressure. Her limited income and ill health keep her inside a lot.

For Christmas, she'd like to have a few domestic supplies. A skillet and a set of pots and pans would really help make meals and cleanup an easier task. Full size sheets and towels are on her Christmas wish list. Having more than one set would put less pressure on this elderly woman, who is not always up to housework because of her poor health.

With some back-up linens, Ms. O wouldn't have to plan on washing and drying in the same day to have clean sheets and towels daily.

Personal items Ms. O would like to receive for Christmas include Coast soap, house shoes size 5 1/2, a size small housecoat and pajamas. Any type of cleaning supplies plus paper towels and tissue would be appreciated for when Ms. O is able to clean her house.

Sav-A-Lot, Wal-Mart or Broadway Pharmacy would make good gift certificates for Ms. O.

For those interested in contributing to the Christmas for the Elderly campaign, gifts may be delivered today to the Southeast Missourian office or area locations.

Cash contributions are also welcome. All contributions are tax-deductible.
