JACKSON -- Dayspring Baptist Church joined other congregations in Missouri and Arkansas, Wednesday, loading up winter coats, shoes and clothing for missionaries in Lebanon and Russia.
The campaign, sponsored by the Baptist Missionary Association, will allow Baptist missionaries to give the clothing to people in the two countries.
"Our missionaries contacted us and said there were quite a few people in their areas who couldn't afford shoes or coats with winter coming on," church member Marlene Limbaugh said. "We thought if we could give the people some things to keep warm, they might be able to come and listen to our message."
Most of the items donated locally came from Castaways, a second-hand clothing store in Cape Girardeau. The rest came from members of Dayspring Baptist Church.
Fischer Lime and Cement Co. of Little Rock, Ark., donated a tractor-trailer rig to collect the clothing in Poplar Bluff, Jackson and Conway, Ark.
