ORAN -- Artist Cleda Curtis-Neal of Oran has been elected to The American Society of Portrait Painters.

Members of the society are artists who are serious portrait painters who have achieved national acclaim. The evaluation for membership in the society is granted to only a few portrait painters.

Curtis-Neal became known through the publication of her book, Portrait Painting Simplified. The book is sold in all 50 states and in 14 foreign countries. In 1992 she published a teaching video to accompany the book.

She is a member of the St. Louis Artist Guild, the South County Art Association, SEMO Council on the Arts, Missouri Citizens for the Arts, Paducah Area Painter's Alliance and is a charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C.

In addition to teaching nationwide portrait painting workshops, Curtis-Neal holds weekly art classes at her Oran studio, where she teaches adults and children.
