Southeast Missouri State University will hold its first Spring Family Weekend, Feb. 16-18.

"This is an opportunity for families to visit their students during the spring semester and to enjoy some special family time together at Southeast," said Diane Sides, director of university relations.

A pre-game dinner followed by Southeast men's and women's basketball games against Eastern Illinois on Feb. 17 will highlight Family Weekend. The women's game kicks off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m. at the Show Me Center.

The pre-game dinner begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center east gymnasium. The climbing wall will be open for those wishing to scale to the top, organizers said.

Barbecue with all the trimmings will be served from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The cost is $6.25 for adults and $4.75 for children. The event is free to university students with proper identification cards.

Manitou will provide musical entertainment. The university's Spirit Band, cheerleaders and Sundancers will hold a mini pep rally.

Southeast student organizations will have displays and sponsor games during Family FunFest.

Children, ages 4-12, can participate in RECess, a program of games, crafts and sports. The program is held at the Student Recreation Center during the basketball games. Drop-off begins at 5 p.m. at the main entrance to the Student Recreation Center. Children must be picked up within 30 minutes after the end of the men's basketball game. To register, call 651-2105.

From 6-9 p.m., "Lester the Professional Fool" clown and face painter "Let's Face It by Susan" will entertain at the Show Me Center.

Family Weekend will open on Feb. 16. Families may stop by the University Museum to view the 23rd annual High School Art Symposium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 16 and 17 in Memorial Hall.

At 5 p.m. on Feb. 16, the Southeast Indoor Track Team will compete against Murray State University at the Student Recreation Center.

Catholic Campus Ministries will celebrate Mass at 4 p.m. Saturday in St. Thomas Aquin-as Chapel at 512 N. Pacific.

Activities Feb. 18 will begin with a breakfast hosted by university President Ken Dobbins. The cost is $6.25 for adults and $4.75 for children ages 6 to 12. Children 5 years of age and younger can eat for free. Tickets may be bought at the door.

Spring Family Weekend will close with a Lutheran Student Fellowship worship service at 11 a.m. in the Lutheran Chapel of Hope at 903 College Hill.
