Cape Girardeau resident Kara Clark has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for the office of Cape Girardeau County Clerk.

Clark's filing means a primary election will take place in August for the race of county clerk. Jackson mayor Paul Sander filed as a Republican candidate for clerk on Feb. 28.

Clark, 35, serves as the director of sales for the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau, where she has worked since Aug. 2004.

If elected to the position, Clark said she would run an "efficient and fair office based on ethical work practices."

She said the opportunity to run came after current county clerk Rodney Miller announced he would not seek re-election after serving the county for more than 25 years.

"I have a passion for the community and a desire to be involved with its growth," Clark said. She believes her training and work experience qualify her for the position.

The deadline to file for a county office will expire at 5 p.m. March 28. Terms for nine Cape Girardeau County offices will expire at the end of this year. Elections will take place in November for presiding commissioner, county clerk, recorder of deeds, collector of revenue, auditor, prosecuting attorney, circuit clerk and two associate judges.
