The College of Liberal Arts at Southeast Missouri State University will present the seventh Lorberg Lecture Wednesday.
Gary Kremer, former state archivist of Missouri, will present a speech on "James Milton Turner and the Civil Rights Tradition in Missouri" at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.
The program is based on Kremer's book about Turner and his public life as a post-Civil War black leader. Other publications have included "George Washington Carver: In His Own Words" and "Missouri's Black Heritage."
Kremer is a professor of history at William Woods College in Fulton. He received degrees from Lincoln University in Kansas and American University in Washington, D.C. He has spoken for the American Mirror Lecture Series sponsored by the Missouri Humanities Council.
The lecture is open to the public and is supported by the council and the College of Liberal Arts at Southeast. The speech is presented in memory of the late M.G. Lorberg Jr., former Missouri Humanities Council president and Southeast professor.
