Five more homeowners in Cape Girardeau have been recognized for their efforts to maintain the historical character of their property.
The city's Historic Preservation Commission has developed a program that recognizes the city's "original treasures." Six homes recently were selected.
The homes are a four square at 428 Themis owned by Rick and Susan Seawel; the Popp house at 1621 Bloomfield Road, owned by Kim and Wade Bentley; a home known for its Spanish-style construction at 409 Themis, owned by Barbara Stribling; the Vandervort house at 504 Bellevue owned by Jerry and Kathryn Westbrook, and homes at 217 S. Sprigg and 221 S. Sprigg, both owned by Brad Elfrink.
The Original Treasures program is being run by the commission, whose members select new homes to honor each quarter. The commission will take part in historic preservation week later this month. Jim Duncan, former director of the Missouri State Museum, will speak May 18 as part of the observance.
