Students in Cape Girardeau public school's gifted program recently placed second in the state in two academic competitions.
A team of 17 sixth-graders placed second in Missouri and 29th in the world in the elementary Knowledge Master contest. Using knowledge of geography, art, literature and 11 other subject areas, teams vied for top scores based on speed and accuracy.
Members of the team are Amanda Wyatt, Lacie Brenner, Kensey Russell, Holly Brantley, Nicholas Ryan, Kari Brindell, Marcus Jones, Bill Morgan, Patrick Dunham, Shannon Randol, Nora Renka, Mark Brickler, Joe Uzoaru, Erik Morse, Wendy Bartosik, Matt Wilson and Benjamin Lowrance.
A team of 18 fourth- and fifth-graders took part in the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl, a statewide academic competition. Scores are based on speed and accuracy. The team ranked second in the state out of 36 teams that entered.
Members are Jonathan Anderson Julie McGowen, Rachel Stanley, Mitch Ogles, Marisa Uzoaru, Kirk Miller, Casey Ferden, Becky Thomas, Hunter Cook, Susan Tansil, Brandon Ruth, Scott Boyd, Franklin McGinty, Charles McGinty, Leanne Lee, Katie Rose, Beth Bishop and Liz Hermann.
