The city has postponed indefinitely a special Cape Girardeau City Council meeting to hear proposals from casino developers, city manager Scott Meyer said Friday.
The meeting was originally scheduled for Thursday at the Osage Community Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway. The meeting has been set back because a Missouri Gaming Commission timeline for submitting applications for the available casino license will allow the city to more thoroughly consider development ideas, Meyer said.
"Before, we just didn't know who fast they wanted to move," Meyer said. "We can wait and still meet the requirements of the gaming commission."
The council will discuss when it will hold the special meeting during the study session before the next regular meeting June 7 at city hall, Meyer said.
The gaming commission has asked for economic assessment questionnaires to be submitted by casino developers by July 15.
By delaying the special meeting, potential developers will be better prepared to discuss their plans, Meyer said. "We decided to give people more time to prepare and also to look at what kind of submittals we want."
