The city of Cape Girardeau is requesting proposals for a compensation market study to determine whether its compensation package for employees is competitive with similar cities.

According to the request for proposals issued by the city, "the intent ... is to solicit responses from qualified organizations to conduct a comparative study of total compensation packages offered by employers similar to the city of Cape Girardeau." The city then will review the data provided.

Lori Meyer, human resources and risk manager for the city, said the last comprehensive compensation study conducted for the city by an outside consultant was about 10 years ago.

The city employs 390 full-time positions across departments such as administration, public safety and public works. Benefits offered to these employees include a city-paid retirement plan, life insurance options and medical, dental and health insurance.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), potential service and consulting partners can meet with city staff to ask questions and learn more about the details of the city's current compensation package.

Those who choose to participate in the compensation study have until March 7 to submit proposals. According to the city's request, the primary criteria for evaluation is the "ability to provide a comprehensive compensation market study, market focus, customer service [and] stability."
