Brian Strickland had the job before Gertis. Strickland left in 1998 to take a job at Strickland Engineering in Jackson.

Gertis is a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and has been with the city since 1996.

"Working for the City of Cape Girardeau has been a very good start for my engineering career," Gertis said. "I am looking forward to my new responsibilities."
